Work should be enjoyable andstable income. If any of this is missing, then the hour is not far off when you will want to quit your usual place. You should not be afraid of leaving, but you need to know how to quit your job correctly. After all, you have been among the company's employees for some time, so your task at the moment is to leave with the least losses for both parties.
Notify in advance
Naturally, for the employer yourthe message about leaving threatens to turn into a lot of worries. He will have to find an adequate employee to replace you, which is fraught with a loss of time and effort. Article 80 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation obliges you to notify your superiors fourteen days before your immediate departure. But judge for yourself, how realistic is it to find a competent replacement for you in such a short time? If there are no and were no insurmountable problems or protracted conflicts in your labor relations, then why not notify your superiors that you have decided to quit a little in advance? For example, a month, or maybe even two. If you and your boss have established a good relationship, this may be an act of respect and understanding on your part. Perhaps you already have some agreements with the new employer. But you can try to explain to him the need to finish things at your old job, because this characterizes you as an extremely decent and responsible employee.
Straight Talk
The most difficult thing from a moral and psychological point of view iswhat awaits you - this is a frank conversation with your boss about your plans to quit. As we have already said, it is better to do this as early as possible to give your boss a chance to process the news and make an action plan. It is absolutely clear that we make the decision to quit for a reason. For many people, it is associated with low wages, poor working conditions, problems in the team, inadequate job responsibilities, etc. In this whole situation, you really want to find a scapegoat, and here he is - your future ex-boss! Perhaps, after deciding to quit, you will have a desire to express to his face all the grievances that have been accumulating inside you for a long time. But this will be the wrong decision, since in this case you are almost 100% likely to break off relations with your former colleagues. Psychologists do not recommend burning bridges for several reasons:
- This characterizes you as a person who can not solve difficult situations in dealing with people. Nobody wants to hire an angry, touchy and conflicted worker!
- You lose a lot of professional connections. Life is long, and the Earth is round, and it is not yet known at what point you will need the help of a former colleague or boss.
- You can not take recommendations from former colleagues that for many employers can be a serious obstacle to your employment.
A difficult conversation with your boss is betterorganize a face-to-face meeting. In an open space office, suggest going to a conference room or an isolated booth in a nearby café - colleagues should not know about your plans yet. Naturally, the atmosphere of the conversation is influenced by many factors: the nature of your relationship, the work situation, the atmosphere in the team, the type of your position. But in almost any circumstances, it is possible to bring it to the right conclusion. First of all, you should tell as sincerely and correctly as possible about the reasons for your departure. Build your sentences in the following way: first, talk about some positive aspects of working in the company, and then outline the negative ones. Try to focus on your own needs and ambitions. Do not forget to emphasize how much good work in the company and your boss personally gave you (even if this is far from the truth). Tell them that you received an interesting offer, and at this point you have already reached the ceiling. You shouldn't indulge in unbridled criticism: if you have a boring job, a small salary and bad conditions, then a smart boss will understand this without you, but you won't be able to explain anything to a stupid one. And God forbid you criticize his management style! It is possible that with a competent conversation you will receive a counter-proposal describing the improvements in your position, and you should think through your response to it in advance. But it is very important that the manager does not perceive the conversation about leaving as an attempt to manipulate him.
Legal Aspects
The Labor Code is aimed at protecting rightsemployee. If the employer cannot fire you at any time simply because he is tired of you, then you can leave at any time of your own free will. This right is implemented in Article 21 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, according to which each person can count on both the conclusion of an employment contract and its termination. Moreover, the reasons for this decision can be very different: a conflict with colleagues, lack of career prospects, non-compliance with rights, receiving a more favorable job offer, etc. … Above, we already wrote about Article 80 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, which requires written notice to the employer of resignation, submitted no later than two weeks before the expected date. Typically, this period is used to find a replacement or to complete work on current projects. Before its end, the employee can change his mind and withdraw his application. But working off two weeks is not a mandatory procedure if you managed to agree on this with your boss or if this position is not your main one, but only a part-time one. The same applies to employees hired for seasonal work and under a fixed-term employment contract - according to Article 292 of the Labor Code, in this case the employee must notify the employer of his/her resignation no later than three days in advance. On the day of dismissal, you must receive all your documents: work record book, copies of everything related to work (orders, income certificates, certificates of transfers to the pension fund) - this can be done in the HR department of your now former organization. You must also make a final settlement, which includes compensation for unused vacations during the working period. If something goes wrong during the dismissal process, and the employer does not comply with the labor law, then you should contact the labor inspectorate with a demand to restore your violated rights.
Be ready for a "war"
Unfortunately, in some cases the managementreacts inadequately to your decision to fire you. The future former manager begins to behave like a real feudal lord holding a peasant (despite the fact that serfdom was abolished more than one hundred and fifty years ago). Now you are considered an “enemy” and “traitor to the common cause”. All mistakes are “pinned” on you and you are forced to do a year’s worth of work in two weeks. Of course, the manager can be understood - no one wants to suddenly lose a good employee and look for a new one. But no one has canceled decency! In this case, all you can do is endure the remaining two weeks, which may well seem like “hell on wheels”. Do not give your superiors any reason to find fault by doing your job well. In the most extreme case, a sick leave certificate may come to your aid, using which will cover the ill-fated two-week notice period. Be prepared for possible problems with accepting the resignation letter. For some reason, some managers “forget” to sign it. Therefore, this document must be drawn up in two copies: one is given to the HR department, and on the other, ask the employee who accepted the application to sign. If he refuses to do so, then you can send your documents by Russian Post by registered mail with notification. The date of the latter will be the date of your notice of dismissal.
Leave beautifully
So, all the problematic moments have been eliminated, andThe countdown of your last two weeks at your former workplace has begun. Regardless of how much advance notice you gave your employer about your departure, you should make this period as easy as possible for the company. Of course, it is tempting to “smoke bamboo” all this time, but it is simply dishonest to do so! You should complete the projects in which you took an active part, put your affairs in order and leave all the key information on the job (for example, contacts) with the new employee. Accordingly, the last two weeks at work have nothing to do with a vacation. Rather, on the contrary, it is similar to summing up and bringing all the affairs to a finished state. Therefore, behave the same as a regular employee: always come on time, do not be lazy, conscientiously fulfill your duties. The employer pays for these two weeks of your work, so make sure that you give it a decent return. Observe the traditions of your work collective associated with the dismissal of one of its members. Most likely, you will need to not only take the work book, but also properly say goodbye to colleagues. Send them emails expressing gratitude for their cooperation and good attitude. Don't forget to exchange contacts with key employees of the company and especially your department - these connections will certainly be useful to you in your new position. If the company has a tradition of stormy farewells, then do not resist the offer to go with colleagues to a nearby cafe after work. No matter what your last days in the company are, leaving a familiar position almost always causes sadness in an employee, even if you know how to quit correctly, or are leaving for a better position. Remember that before the expiration of the two-week period from the moment of notice of dismissal, you can change your mind and return to your previous position. In any case, your career is moving forward, and new successes and achievements await you over the horizon! We recommend reading:
