On New Year's Eve, we are immersed in a specialthe atmosphere of pre-holiday bustle, anxious anticipation and truly fabulous beauty. And even if due to the vagaries of the weather outside the window it is slushy and snowless, the New Year will still come, and we will definitely celebrate it. Of course, the main festive mood on New Year's Eve is created by a Christmas tree sparkling with lights. However, New Year's decor for the house is not limited to just a Christmas tree! You can make wall or table New Year's compositions to go with the tree, make a real Christmas wreath, use Christmas tree decorations, tinsel, homemade snowflakes and garlands for decoration. However, let's find out some of the possibilities of New Year's decor for the home.
Wall compositions from coniferous twigs
Pine branches that can be purchased on thatThe same Christmas tree market, where live trees are also available, will be an excellent basis for a wall New Year's composition. A little trick will help keep the branches fresh: refresh the cuts with sharp scissors or a knife diagonally and let them stand in water for about a day. After that, cover the cuts with melted wax. And then do the following. Weave small wreaths from the branches or arrange bouquets, securing the composition with wire. For a Christmas wreath, use a wire ring as a frame, and attach the branches to it with the same wire, electrical tape or thread. Now the fluffy pine branches can be decorated: ribbons, small figures and toys attached with wire, or with glue and a stapler will do. In addition, you can decorate the Christmas wreath with Christmas tree decorations and tinsel, dried (orange slices) or fresh (apples, rowan berries) fruits and berries, artificial and fresh flowers. Traditionally, the Christmas wreath is hung on the front door just below the peephole. In the West, the wreath is placed outside the door. But if you allow the possibility that your Christmas wreath will suddenly become a decoration for someone else's home, then hang it on the door in the hallway, away from the eyes of uninvited guests. A festive look for your home and a good mood for your guests will be guaranteed in any case!
Ikebana for Christmas and New Year
So, you can hang it on the wall or on the doora nice Christmas wreath. But these are not the only suitable surfaces for New Year's home decor. We still have a lot of all kinds of horizontal surfaces, and therefore tables and shelves, chests of drawers and trellises can be decorated with compositions in baskets, flat dishes and vases. In a word, let's try to make New Year's ikebana. A thick piece of polystyrene or floral foam is suitable for the base of such a composition. You can do it another way: pour decorative sand or even salt into a transparent low vase, which perfectly imitates snow, and then stick pine, spruce or fir branches into them. Or just put the composition in a vase. These branches can be painted with any white paint (spray, acrylic or gouache) to imitate frosty needles. You can also sprinkle the branches with foam chips or artificial snow, after having coated them with glue or sprayed them with hairspray. Nuts and cones, Christmas tree decorations, ribbon bows, and serpentine are placed on the coniferous branches in a random order. A wonderful decoration will be an ikebana of "snow-covered" branches with one large Christmas tree ball or without any additional decorations at all. Christmas angels, which can be made of paper or sewn from fabric or felt, Christmas gift boots and striped lollipops will fit perfectly into such a composition. And the New Year's ikebana can also be decorated with real Christmas gingerbread cookies, painted with sugar icing. The mind-blowing aroma of such edible decor will create a perfume appropriate for the holiday and a good mood. By the way, a Christmas wreath can be placed not only on the door and on the wall, but also become the central composition of the festive table. Only in this case the wreath is made more lush and tall, and such decoration is complemented with candles.
Natural flowers
Oddly enough, in the Western traditionChristmas decor necessarily includes fresh flowers. And if for us such decorations were very unusual until recently, today they are becoming quite understandable and even a traditional element of New Year's home decor. There are several types of potted plants that are strongly associated with Christmas and the New Year due to their bright leaves, flowers or berries: mistletoe, poinsettia (Christmas star), nightshade. On New Year's Eve, you can buy a plant with an already blossomed flower in flower shops, or its artificial copy. You can also sprout daffodil, freesia or tulip bulbs in advance (about a month before the New Year). Sprouted bulbs are left in small pots in a moist substrate, they complement New Year's compositions or use them as a live bouquet on the festive table. Or, for example, in the nearest park (in your garden, in a forest plantation) cut a few branches with pronounced buds. After standing in the warmth of home for several days, they will delight the eye with young greenery already by the holidays. Lilac, apricot and poplar branches quickly give young foliage.
Christmas toys in the interior
Tinsel was and remains surprisingly convenientmaterial for New Year's decor. Decorate furniture and walls with Christmas tinsel, hanging it in the form of garlands, or even make outline images of a Christmas tree, snowflakes, stars and a congratulatory inscription "Happy New Year!" using tape (pins). By the way, tinsel on a wire base can take any shape and looks great in compositions. Garlands, bright balls and other decorations will sparkle effectively if they are attached to chandeliers and floor lamps. A mysterious fairy-tale portal will come out of a mirror in the hallway if you make a frame for it from tinsel and toys. Christmas balls in a large transparent vase can decorate a New Year's table, as well as a Christmas wreath, a bouquet of fresh flowers or ikebana. You can even make whole garlands from balls, fortunately today they sell safe plastic balls, which, by the way, are much cheaper than glass ones.
Magic windows
Just recently we painted the windows of the divorcedwater with toothpaste. Today it is no longer fashionable. Unfortunately. But such retro decor is still timeless and fashionable, because a handmade fairy tale has the right to exist in any version. And if you like this way of decorating windows, then spit on fashion and paint the windows, as you did in childhood! Or cut out stencils with snowflakes or other New Year symbols from paper and use them to apply artificial frost to the glass or write a New Year's wish. As in the recent past, we continue to decorate windows with electric Christmas tree garlands with pleasure. Walk along the street one evening on New Year's Eve and look at the windows of apartment buildings: you will definitely count twenty or so windows framed with multi-colored lights. Candles will also make the windows magical: in the evening, the flame of candles placed on the windowsill is beautifully reflected in the glass and illuminates the windows with a fabulous warm light.
Holiday at the cottage
If you intend to celebrate the New Year onin a summer house or live in your own home, then you have great opportunities for exterior New Year's decor. In the West, they generally arrange magical illuminations from electric garlands. If your funds allow such luxury, then you can follow Western traditions. However, you will have to spend a lot only once, but every next New Year you will be able to decorate your house in such a magical way. But there are other options for external New Year's decor of the house. Small tablet candles will decorate the railings of the porch or even the steps. In convenient, open corners for viewing, you can put lanterns for candles. The doors and windows of the house from the outside can also be decorated with garlands or tinsel. And if there are Christmas trees growing on your site, they can be traditionally decorated with toys - let there be not one, but many New Year trees in the garden!
Precautionary measures
New Year and Christmas are not only a time fora magical holiday, but also for special caution. Unfortunately, at this fabulous time, no one has cancelled the possibility of a fire. The candle flame, so cozy and magical, can darken any holiday. Therefore, be careful and follow safety regulations. It may sound trivial and completely official, but your vigilance and caution will help to avoid minor and major troubles. Pets are a reason for special attention. Cats, for example, love to play with decorations hanging on the tree. So place unbreakable toys at the bottom of the tree. Small kittens are generally capable of confusing the New Year tree with an ordinary tree and can easily start climbing it. So the tree must be stable. Many pets love to gnaw on shiny foil tinsel. Instead, you can use brightly colored paper serpentine - the effect will be no worse. Toys and other decorations must be securely and high enough if you have a cat or dog in your house. These are curious creatures with an exploratory instinct and a playful nature. By the way, the same qualities are characteristic of small children. Therefore, the festive decoration of the house should be safe. However, DIY New Year's decor will allow you to decorate your house, observing safety precautions. After all, who else but you knows the habits of your pets and the mischievous nature of small children. Let your home sparkle with fabulous decorations during the New Year holidays, and let the magical atmosphere of the most beloved, most homely and most wonderful holiday reign in it. Good luck!
