Paradoxical but true:On the Hawaiian Islands themselves, this recipe is practically unknown. And Hawaiian pizza was invented in America, where it remains very popular today, especially in the western states. And Hawaiian pizza is also loved and appreciated in Canada, Australia and Sweden. And here we have tried it and were able to appreciate the availability of ingredients and the ease of preparation. How does Hawaiian pizza differ from other versions? Only in the filling, the main ingredients of which are pineapples and ham. Perhaps it is thanks to pineapples that this pizza got its name: summer, sun, sea, pineapples and Hawaii - isn't that an associative series? And in our country, Hawaiian pizza is becoming increasingly popular also thanks to our universal love for pineapples. Well, you open a can - and here you have ready-made ingredients for a cake, for a salad, for a spicy side dish and even, as it turns out, for pizza. Besides, in winter, when fresh tomatoes are quite expensive (and they are not tasty in winter!), you can treat yourself to a sunny pizza, for the preparation of which tomatoes are not needed. Therefore, we put in our culinary piggy bank a recipe for a simple and very tasty Hawaiian pizza.
Simple Hawaiian Pizza
Ingredients:
- Wheat flour - 1 glass (approximately);
- Yeast dry - 1 teaspoon;
- Milk is half a glass;
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon;
- Salt - 1 teaspoon;
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon.
For the filling:
- Canned pineapple;
- Ham boiled and smoked;
- Hard cheese (any);
- Ketchup or tomato sauce.
Preparation:Traditional Hawaiian pizza is made from yeast dough. Therefore, you can buy a ready-made frozen base (sold in almost all large supermarkets), or you can make the dough yourself. Let us immediately stipulate that no (even the highest quality) semi-finished product can compare with dough made by hand. You may or may not believe in the ability of human hands to transfer their energy to products, but the fact remains: fresh homemade dough is always tastier than store-bought. So, knead the dough. Sift the flour through a sieve and mix it with salt. Next, collect the flour in a mound and make a small depression in this mound, pour in dry yeast and pour in vegetable oil. Then, gradually adding milk, knead the soft dough. After kneading the dough, put it in a bowl, cover with a napkin or cling film and leave to rise. This will take about forty minutes. If this dough recipe does not suit you (it takes a long time to rise), try making dough with a sponge. It will take you almost half as much time to make this dough. For the sponge, dissolve the yeast in warm milk with sugar, let it rise like a “cap”, and then knead the dough by mixing the sponge with vegetable oil, flour and salt. Let the dough stand for fifteen minutes and start assembling the pizza. Once the dough is rising, start making the pizza filling. The simplest Hawaiian pizza recipe includes a filling of ham, pineapple and cheese. Therefore, prepare the ingredients by cutting the ham and pineapple into cubes and grating the cheese on a coarse grater. Place the risen dough on a table sprinkled with flour and form two flat pizza bases from it. The specified amount of products will make two pizzas with a diameter of about thirty centimeters. Place the crusts on a baking sheet lined with baking paper or greased with oil and spread tomato sauce or ketchup on them. If you don’t have either, simply dilute the tomato paste with boiled water, adding a little sugar, salt and lemon juice. Then evenly distribute the ham and pineapple over the crusts (in one layer) and generously sprinkle with cheese. Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven: in five to seven minutes, your Hawaiian pizza is ready! Note: If the recipe does not specify the exact amount of ingredients for the filling, then you can vary this amount to your taste. But usually, for Hawaiian pizza, pineapple and ham are taken in equal quantities.
Hawaiian pizza with mushrooms
This recipe is complicated by the presence of mushrooms and sweet bell peppers in the filling. By the way, we will also try to prepare the dough for this pizza a little differently. Ingredients:
- Milk or water - 1 glass;
- Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons;
- Eggs - 2 pieces;
- Flour - 2 cups;
- Yeast dry - 2 teaspoons;
- Salt - 1 teaspoon.
For the filling:
- Ham - 200 g;
- Pineapples canned - 5-6 rings;
- Champignons fresh - 3-4 pieces;
- Sweet pepper - 1-3 pieces;
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons;
- Cheese hard - 200 g.
Preparation:Dissolve the yeast in warm sweetened milk (this is what we call the dough) and leave for fifteen minutes. Meanwhile, beat the eggs with salt, pour in the butter and mix. Then add the dough to this mixture and, gradually sprinkling in flour, knead a soft dough. Leave the dough to rise for another fifteen minutes. While the dough is rising, wash and slice the mushrooms, clean the seeds and cut the peppers into rings. Cut the ham into very thin rings, which we then tear into "flags", and cut the pineapple rings into three parts. Chop the cheese using a coarse grater. Place the risen dough on the table, knead it and stretch it into a pizza base (you can make a couple of round ones, or one large one, on the entire baking sheet). Then move the base to a baking sheet covered with baking paper and grease the dough with tomato paste. Place pieces of ham, pineapple and mushrooms on top. Put rings of sweet pepper as a second layer and sprinkle everything with grated cheese. Bake the pizza for no longer than twenty minutes on moderate heat.
Hawaiian pizza from puff pastry
We offer you a recipe for Hawaiian pizza in a hurryhand. This Hawaiian pizza is very quick to prepare, and the recipe is suitable for the busiest or just beginning housewives. By the way, this recipe can be mastered not only by a woman, but also by a man who has dared to approach the oven for the first time. Ingredients:
- Ready-made puff pastry - 1 kg;
- Ham boiled and smoked - 200 g;
- Pineapples canned (slices) - 1 can;
- Cheese hard - 200 g.
Preparation:Take the puff pastry out of the package and divide it into portions (eight pizza portions should come out of a kilogram of dough). Next, roll each piece of dough into a square no more than five millimeters thick and place it on a baking sheet covered with baking paper. Cut the ham into small cubes, take the pineapples out of the jar and let the syrup drain off them, grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Then put a layer of ham on each pizza portion, a layer of pineapples on top, and the last layer is grated cheese. Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake our Hawaiian pizza for five minutes. Note: For portioned pizza, the ingredients need to be cut as finely as possible. This is especially true for pineapples, which are often placed in jars cut into very large pieces. Don't be lazy, cut the pineapples smaller - the pizza will be tastier. And in general, do not be afraid to supplement the Hawaiian pizza recipe with other ingredients. After all, its invariable components are ham, pineapple and cheese. And you can put in the filling not only mushrooms and sweet peppers, but also, for example, shrimp, ketchup and mayonnaise sauce, herbs (parsley, basil), chicken fillet. So the ready-made recipe is just a guide to action and instructions for cooking. And how you use this instruction, and what your Hawaiian pizza will turn out, depends only on your taste and your courage. Have a good mood, enjoy the culinary process and bon appetit!
