If you decide to sew your own handbag, then maybebe it worth trying a popular and fashionable patchwork technique for these purposes? After all, patchwork sewing not only allows you to save by using old things and trimming the fabric, but also to make an exclusive accessory, which you certainly will not see in anyone. Bags, made in patchwork technique, are adorable! And how many opportunities are there to implement the most daring ideas! You can sew a large baggage or beach bag, you can make a small cosmetic bag or a children's handbag, and if you want - sew an elegant clutch or everyday handbag. And how the technique of patchwork makes it possible to experiment with fabrics, stitches and models: it can be both a traditional English patchwork with geometric patterns, and Japanese patchwork with floral applique, and a quilting with its voluminous stitch, and an unpredictable crackie patchwork. In general, we take as a basis patchwork embroidery in any of its interpretations, we stock up with fabrics and tools and start work. Author's work, mind you! 
Beautician in quilting technique
Let's start sewing, as it should, with a smallmodel. To begin with, we sew a small (or not very small) cosmetic bag - a handbag, which should be for every self-respecting lady. This model differs in impressive volume at small sizes, and it is very easy to sew it. Given the not very intricate model of such a cosmetic bag, we will make it a quilting technique, which combines patchwork (patchwork) and three-dimensional stitching. For such a cosmetic bag we will need:
- a zipper with a length of twenty centimeters;
- two cuts of multi-colored fabric, for example, plashevki;
- Threads in tone or contrasting with the color of the fabric;
- thin sintepon or batting for the interlayer;
- sewing pins;
- sewing machine.
First we collect the patchwork cloth. The sewing of such a cloth is carried out as follows. Cut out twelve square flaps of the same color and twelve such flaps of a different color. The side of the square is five centimeters, plus the allowances for seams. We take two flaps of different colors, we fold them with faces and we grind one edge at a time. Unfold and iron. Also we sew two more multicolored flaps. Now we combine these two blanks into a strip, folding them with faces and sewing the sides of the two extreme multi-colored squares on both blanks. As a result, you should get a strip of four alternating squares: two of the same color and the other two. In the same way we sew five more strips. Next, we make a patchwork cloth, or rather, two for the two sides of the cosmetic bag. For each canvas we sew three strips, having colored squares in a staggered order, and iron the seams properly. Now we cut out two parts of sintepon according to the size of patchwork. We lay the canvas on the front side of the table, apply a sintepon on it and puncture the center of the squares with pins. On the sewing machine we make the stitch "seam in the seam", tucking the sintepon to the canvas over the joints between the flaps. From a single piece of cloth, we cut out two more details according to the size of the sides of the future cosmetic bag, apply them to the synthepone with the wrong sides and make a connecting line along the edges of the parts. We get two billets: patchwork and quilted on one side and smooth and one-color from the underside. Now, from one long side of each part, we make a hem for sewing a zipper and zayutuzhivaem it. We take note of the lock-zipper and we put it on the typewriter. We got almost ready deployed cosmetic bag. Next, we add the two parts to the sides and spread the bottom of the bag. The resulting pipe is folded again, combining the bottom seam with a zipper, and we spread the sides. Pulling the bottom seam and zipper, disconnect the parts, form the corners and pin them with pins, and then make one seam under each of the four corners, laying it perpendicular to the side seams of the cosmetic bag. Superfluous corners cut off and sweep sections. We cut off all unnecessary threads, twist the cosmetic bag and admire our creation. 
Bag of cloth leftovers
Elegant and laconic bag in patchwork style,suitable, rather for economic purposes. However, depending on the used fabrics and decorative seams or braid to conceal the seams, the handbag can come out either glamorous-romantic or mischievous. And for its production we will use the well-known technique of Crazy Patchwork and prepare the following materials:
- flaps of colored fabric of any shape;
- embroidery thread or tape to mask the seams;
- Dense fabric for the base of the bag;
- stripes of thick leather for pens.
First we cut out two parts from the main fabricin the shape of the future bag: rectangles, slightly tapered upward and with rounded bottom corners. Now proceed to collect the crazy canvas. To do this, lay out a large detail on the table face up. Then we take one shred and place it, having slightly displaced the whole-piece from the center and putting it face up. On it we put another shred (it is not necessary to combine the edges) inverted side up. We break the parts and make a stitch, sewing both flaps to the base along the edge of the top. Expand and straighten the upper shred and iron the seam. The excess tissue of the lower shred (which extends freely beyond the seam) is cut off. Next, we put another flap on the first two - also face down. Again, sew it to the canvas and to the flaps, unfold, iron the seam, cut off excess fabric. Thus, we fill the whole pattern with patches. The second part of the bag can be made one-color and one-piece, and you can also assemble it from individual patches in the technique of a crazy patchwork. We check out the patchwork details of the bag and decorate the seams with braid or decorative embroidery. We put the two parts together and spread them along the bottom and sides. We loosen the seams and turn out the resulting bag. Now we cut out two details for the lining (the size of the bag parts plus the allowances for the seams), we fold them face-to-face with each other and sew on the bottom and sides. We rub the seams, but do not turn them out. We put a lining in a bag and we sweep edges of both details (on top of the future bag). Next, we cut out the strip of fabric for the edging or use the usual beak for this. We process the upper edge of the bag with a bake. We finish sewing by manufacturing and fastening of handles. From a thick skin, cut out two handles of the necessary length and sew one handle to the front of the bag, and the other to the back. That, strictly speaking, that's all. A bag in the style of a cake patchwork is ready. If you have a good knowledge of cutting and sewing, you can sew a lining with pockets and sew a zipper in the bag. Instead of leather handles, you can stitch handles from several layers of fabric. 
Bag of leather pieces
If you have something out of fashion in your closet somewhereleather jacket, then try to make a bag out of it, combining patchwork and patchwork patchwork. And if you use a skin of different colors for these purposes, then the bag will be even more interesting than from one-color leather flaps. So, to make such a purse, you will need:
- square skin flaps (with a side about seven centimeters) - 32 pieces
- lining fabric;
- yarn for joining flaps and wringing the handle;
- Crochet hook;
- fastener.
Prepare leather shreds for work by makingalong the perimeter of each joint puncture: using an awl at an equal distance from the edge and from each other, puncture holes. Now tie all the flaps of yarn in a tone of skin color or contrasting color (so it will be even more interesting). After that, collect two canvases (sixteen squares in each), connecting the flaps with the help of yarn and crochet hook. Fold both canvases together (wrong sides) and connect them to the bottom edge and sides, also using the crochet and threads. From the lining fabric, cut two parts (the size of the sides of the bag plus the allowances for the seams), fold them face-down and stitch along the sides and the bottom edge. Insert (without turning out) the resulting bag into the bag and sweep the edges of the bag and pads, and then stitch them. Hook the edges of the bag with a hook, using for this any decorative, but dense pattern. Tie a handle (or knobs) of the correct length and attach them to the bag. If desired, sew a zipper and decorate the bag with crocheted or leather-made flowers. By the way, instead of leather, you can use pieces of felt (this material does not crumble around the edges) or tie the details of the patchwork. As you can see, it is not necessary to use exclusively patchwork in the traditional way for making bags in the style of patchwork. Such handbags can be tied, and then you will get a knitted patchwork. Or even combine different techniques: patchwork and stitching, knitting and appliqué. The most suitable for single-layer bags are dense fabrics: jeans, tarpaulin, plashevka, tapestry, drapes. If you are thinking of sewing a quilted handbag, then use less dense fabrics, and for a bag in the style of a crazy patchwork, you can combine almost any fabric, lace, leather and hand knitted wear. Quilting, as, indeed, any other needlework gives almost unlimited possibilities for creativity. And even if everything does not turn out perfectly right away, do not despair and do not stop half way - the skill comes with experience.
