There probably isn't a girl in our country whowho has never bought jeans. After all, these trousers, which came to us from America, have long and firmly taken root in Russia. There is no doubt that jeans are comfortable and practical. You can go for a walk, go to work, even at a party, jeans look stylish. They are worn both in winter and summer, with heels and with sneakers. The main thing is to choose the right style and you will always have something to wear in your wardrobe! Quite often, the purchased model turns out to be longer than necessary, and then the question arises of whether to take the item to the studio or try to give it the desired length yourself. Of course, trusting the specialists is more reliable and convenient, but their work costs money. And why pay for something you can do with your own hands? If you have a sewing machine and at least a little idea of how to use it, you can cope with the task. The tips given in this article will tell you how to hem jeans on a machine or by hand and will help you do it no worse than in a studio.
General rules of work
The first thing you need to decide on isthe final length. Try on the jeans with the shoes you will wear them with. Now fold the legs up so that you can walk comfortably in them. The pants should not interfere with movement, but the color of your tights should not be on display either. That is, find the "golden mean". Next, pin the desired place with sewing pins along the entire perimeter. The next step. Lay out the jeans on a flat surface, align them and smooth them along the length. Now take a piece of toilet soap, a ruler and mark the line along which the pins are attached. Then you need to draw a line for the allowance, at a distance of about two centimeters from the main one. Cut off the excess material along the second line. Well, it's time to connect the machine to the matter. Turn the thing inside out. First, fold the leg inward along the first line, and then fold it again, this time along the second line. You can iron it a little, it will be easier for you to stitch. Now slowly stitch in the hem. That's it! You still need to iron it so that the jeans look neat.
If there is no sewing machine
Don't despair. All this work can be done by hand, although it will take a little more time and patience. So how to hem jeans by hand? There is nothing complicated about it. Again, try them on, mark the desired length and allowance. Next, fold along the first line and sew with a regular seam, which is popularly called "forward needle". Fold again along the second line and sew with a neater seam in the middle of the hem. Choose threads to match the color of the jeans. And of course, iron them. It didn't turn out as beautiful as on a machine, but the goal was still achieved! Let's look at how to hem jeans in a more complex way, using which you can preserve the factory seam and the frayed bottom typical of some models. Cut the item one centimeter higher than the stitching. Now try on the jeans to determine the desired length and, if necessary, cut more. Next, carefully rip the factory stitch on the cut off part. Fold it inward and smooth it out a little higher than the place where the seam was. Now fold the part with the trouser leg so that the side seams match. Attach with pins. Or you can baste. You need to stitch along the place where the factory seam was. Try to choose threads that are as similar as possible to those used to stitch the entire item. Smooth it out slightly – and you’re done!
An interesting way
This idea will be useful for those who have jeansfrayed at the bottom, but their overall appearance is still good. You can’t throw away a thing because of a frayed edge. Everything can be fixed. To do this, you will need a zipper, which is sold by the meter and does not have a lock. Cut off the frayed edge. Divide the zipper into two halves - one for each leg. Now apply it with the edge to the edge of the jeans and sew. The line should be closer to the zipper. Then fold the seam inward and stitch again, stepping back from the edge about one centimeter. The teeth of the zipper will be a kind of "fringe" - both stylish, and the bottom will not fray.
"Bachelor" method
Probably all women will be interested to know, how unmarried men shorten jeans. The method is very interesting, original and simple. You can borrow it if you really don’t want to bother with sewing. The jeans are ironed to the desired length. Then again, adding one centimeter. The excess part is cut off with scissors. Next, take the “Moment” glue, coat the first hem with it from the inside, fold it over and press it well. The second hem is processed in exactly the same way. The “hemmed” edge is pressed with your fingers and ironed with an iron from the outside and inside. Here’s an interesting method. And you don’t need a sewing machine, and the threads will remain intact! We recommend reading:
