Today the world of fashion is once again opening up to the beautifulsixties style. Hippie style in clothes is a bright representative of this time. What is a hippie? Some say that it is a manner of dressing and a special self-expression. Others say that hippies are rock-n-roll fans who take drugs and preach radical political views. But all these opinions are wrong. Many people miss the main thing - what is in the hearts of hippies, motivating such unusual behavior. Their way of life contradicts all structures of power, that is, love, peace, freedom. In the sixties, they unexpectedly turned fashion upside down and, in addition, turned it inside out. Hippies even then brought a large number of new colors and styles that had never been in fashion before.
The main rule of the hippy fashion is no rules!
- Everything went away from the colorless, conservative, pale and boring styles of the early 1960s;
- Hippy style is borrowed in many respects from the traditional fashion of India, Bali, Morocco, Nepal and Central America;
- They also turned for inspiration and new bright, unusual ideas for the Renaissance.
Of course, many hippies couldn't afford it.buy such suits. The shops of that time most likely resembled a Salvation Army warehouse. But still, you could put together a wardrobe by taking old jeans with holes and sewing on different patches of bright colors. When the jeans were too tight, you could simply cut or rip them along the seam and sew in triangular pieces of fabric, not even necessarily denim, and as a result you would get beautiful flared jeans. An old jacket, a cheap bandana, a few trinkets - and you are at the height of fashion. Perhaps the only limitation in the hippie wardrobe was the limits of imagination.
- Klesh rules the world - denim, striped, leather, mixed; necessarily with a low belt that exposed the navel;
- The upper part was unusually diverse: from African shirts to bright dashiks, from silk men's shirts to tai-dai and Middle Eastern caftans;
- The girls could wear Indian saris from Bali;
- Leather, denim, batik, velvet, silk and Indian cotton were unusually popular;
- Geometric patterns that created the illusion of three-dimensionality, psychedelic motifs and fractal images turned everyone's head;
- The choice of shoes was also very wide. From the platforms to the bright shoes of shiny, patent leather. From boots with a zipper to sandals;
- Long skirts with folds and peasant clothing also became popular;
- Any bottom with bells or flaps was also possible. Belt in the form of a chain perfectly complemented the image.
- All hippie clothing must be trimmed with fringe.
Following all this came the symbol of the femininefreedom - mini and even micro-skirts that emphasized beautiful slender legs. Paired with a translucent blouse on a bare chest. It is not surprising that all this eventually led to the sexual revolution.
Accessories in the style of hippies
Bandanas, leather jackets, and baubles were fashionablebeaded, glasses with round bright lenses and jackets with frills. Jewelry made of Indian, Mexican or Moroccan silver had a special, unusual meaning. Rings, bracelets, small rings for the ears, nose, ankle bracelets were worn. Necklaces were decorated with a symbol of the struggle for peace - a raised fist, as well as yin-yang symbols and others taken from Eastern esotericism. Headdresses also changed rapidly: from small, tight-fitting to Jamiroquai high ones. Very often hats were decorated with feathers, baubles and other bright objects. The traditional hippie style included wreaths or Pocahontas ribbons as a mandatory decoration, and fluttering "flags" of long hair. Most people let their hair grow, trimming it extremely rarely. Men grew moustaches, beards and sideburns. Women stopped shaving their armpits and legs. Bras were turned into a symbol of oppression and control over female sexuality of any hippie girl. It is important to add that no hippie who respected himself and his culture ever wore clothes with logos of any company. For them, it was complete madness. Nowadays, children from the West have gone crazy from the desire to conform to the ideals of fashion. They should pay attention to the hippie brand - no advertising with athletes, no logos and promotions, no support of the dollar. Only comfortable, inexpensive, second-hand, easy-to-repair clothes can give you the right look - the hippies were convinced. There was also a fashion for smells. Incense had to fill the air wherever hippies gathered. "Flower children" smelled accordingly: rose, lavender and other floral aromas. The most common was patchouli, as it hid the smell of marijuana. For men, sandalwood and mask scents were popular.
A modern look at the style of free hippies
Moving away from different cultures only to the masses, closerto the people, the hippie style has never changed itself. Instead, it has expanded the boundaries of what is possible. The modern hippie girl is a little different from the old hippies with their idea of an endless world and eternal harmony with nature. It is like a style option for a glamorous life, but more strict and sophisticated. Although it has not yet been brought to perfection, since it still remains free. Long skirts, tunics and bells at the bottom of all clothing should be the main element in such an ensemble. Wavy areas can be depicted, for example, on a scarf, which can be worn around the neck or at the waist, on the elbow or wrist - it all depends on your preferences and fantasies. If you do not want to hide beautiful and slender legs, you can choose this option: a skirt just above the knees, a T-shirt with a floral print and rough boots, emphasizing indifference to fashion. If you prefer trousers, they must be loose and colorful. A simple white T-shirt and sandals look great with these trousers, and a bright cardigan will complete the look. We recommend reading:
