Great and mighty wall of China
Sights of China can presentonly one architectural structure - the Great Wall of China, known to both adults and children all over the world. It is a symbol of the greatness and power of the Chinese civilization. Opinions differ on its length, but taking into account all the ramparts extending from it, the total length of this giant is up to six and a half thousand kilometers. It stretches from the Liaodong Gulf, located in the north-east of the capital, and passes through all of China to the Gobi Desert. The construction of the wall began in the 220s BC. This was done to protect the great empire from the invasion of nomadic peoples from the northwest. The construction dragged on for hundreds of years, and was completed only during the reign of the Qing dynasty. It was a reliable defense - to enter the country, it was necessary to cross a special checkpoint, which did not function at night. Legend has it that even the great emperor of China once waited until the morning to get back into the country. In total, the wall was built three times over more than two and a half thousand years. Millions of Chinese died during its construction, and their remains were walled up right in the wall, which is why this landmark is called the Wailing Wall of China.
Terracotta army of all times
The Terracotta Army was discovered in 1974completely by accident during the construction of a well. In total, there are seven to nine thousand terracotta soldiers. It took more than seven hundred thousand sculptors and about forty years to create this army. The figures are made of clay, then they are fired, covered with a special compound and painted. Each warrior weighs about one hundred and thirty kilograms, a horse - all two hundred. The army was created according to the design of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, who planned to win victories in his afterlife, in which this army could help him. The presence of such sculptures speaks of the generosity and humanism of the emperor, since his predecessors preferred to bury living soldiers with themselves. But it should be noted that about seventy thousand workers, their families, and several thousand concubines were buried alive along with the clay warriors. The army is located in certain crypts and is located in battle formation at a distance of one and a half kilometers from the emperor's tomb. Each soldier is different from the others and is a unique sculpture. It is believed that they were sculpted from living people. Little known fact: this terracotta army was only part of a gigantic project to build an imperial tomb. It turns out that there is a miniature China with rivers, palaces and mountains underground. It is from here that the emperor continues to rule after his death.
