Why does a child's temperature fluctuate?
There may be many reasons. But most often they talk about a hidden inflammatory process in the body. This could be tonsillitis, acute respiratory disease or inflammation of any organ.The child often has a fever due to stressPhoto: Getty If this reason is excluded, there are many others:
- teething in babies;
- overheating and long walks under the scorching sun;
- stressful situations, overexcitation or fright.
In the latter case, neurologists talk aboutthermoneurosis. This is the body's defensive response to stress. As a rule, the temperature does not rise above 37.5 °C. Most often, this happens to preschoolers or first-graders. When they are at home, everything is normal, but as soon as they go to school or kindergarten, the temperature immediately begins to rise. Parents can control this themselves by regularly measuring body temperature at the same time of day.
What to do if your child has a fever without symptoms
Every baby is individual, and the temperature indifferent times of the day can vary greatly. In the morning, the readings should not exceed 36.6 °C. The temperature peak occurs in the afternoon and can reach 37.2 °C. For some children, a temperature of 37 – 37.2 °C is normal, this is a feature of their body. If the temperature rises constantly, you need to see a doctor. Many diseases are asymptomatic, and only a specialist can determine that something is wrong with the child. A one-time rise in temperature is not scary. If the child normally tolerates a rise in temperature to 38-38.5 °C - in this case, it does not need to be brought down, if the baby generally feels well, plays, does not complain of pain and is not capricious. But small children need to be monitored especially carefully, since they can develop a fever in a matter of minutes. If the cause of the temperature change is overheating and stress, parents need to create comfortable conditions for the child and check the temperature again. In case of thermonurosis, there is no need to worry too much. This disease does not require special treatment. It is enough to eliminate the traumatic factors: ensure a comfortable stay in kindergarten or school, help with studies, show love and affection, establish a daily routine. Sometimes doctors recommend an additional course of sedatives. Temperature fluctuations in most cases do not pose a danger to the child's health. But if this happens often, it is better to undergo a full examination.
