Imagine a baby who has not evenknows how to hold a head. What will happen if it is properly shaken - it does not matter, in a fit of annoyance, inadvertently, or during the game? We will not go into the medical details, but the fact is: as a result of these actions it is very easy to damage the child's brain. So seriously that he can perish. If you thought it was utter stupidity, because no one in his right mind would shake the baby with such force that he would become uncomfortable, then in vain. Dad, joyfully throwing the baby to the ceiling, Mom, who furiously shakes the screaming baby, trying to cradle him, but already beside himself with irritation and fatigue, they all put the child at risk.Photo:GettyImagesPediatricians are well aware of the concept of "shaken baby syndrome". It is also known as shaken baby syndrome or SBS. We will tell you about it too. Until now, some specialists did not want to acknowledge the existence of such a syndrome. Lawyers tried especially hard in the courtroom when they defended parents whose children suddenly died. However, now the existence of such a disease has been scientifically proven. The facts are presented in the report "Shaken Baby Syndrome: Science or Myth", presented at the national conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics. "In 2016, we surveyed 628 doctors at leading children's hospitals," the press service of the academy quotes the author of the report, Dr. Sandeep Narang. "88 percent of them answered that shaken baby syndrome is a real diagnosis." Even if the baby stays alive after a good shake, his health after such "rocking" is definitely not ideal. The vast majority of doctors surveyed said that the consequences of SBS include cerebral hemorrhages, severe retinal hemorrhages, and even coma. To avoid tragedy, follow this rule: do not shake the child abruptly! At least until the age of two, and ideally never. In the car, transport the baby only when buckled up and in a child seat: exactly the same consequences can result from a car accident. Pick up a newborn, only carefully supporting the head. Remember: even light shaking of a baby leads to such brain damage that 10-20 percent of infants die, and 75 percent are injured for life. Moreover, they can make themselves known at any age.
