It also happens: the color of the eyes has changedPhoto: Getty
Can the color of the eyes change?
As scientists have established, the eyes of some peoplemay become either darker or lighter. Since the amount of melanin in the body decreases with age, dark brown eyes may also become lighter over time. With age, the iris becomes denser, so the eyes may appear darker than at a younger age. If an adult's eye color has changed, this may not be an indicator of health problems. This is completely normal, and there is no need to worry. However, sometimes a change in eye color indicates a serious illness: pigmentary glaucoma (caused by the use of medications for an eye disease, which has resulted in an increase in melanin); changes in the nervous system (sympathetic); metallosis of the eye (chalcohol, siderosis, etc.); uveitis.
Heterochromia: what is it?
There is also a known phenomenon called heterochromia, when a person has eyes of different colors. Sometimes this is caused by injuries. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the change in eye color occurs due to genetic predisposition, that is, children inherit their parents' genes that are responsible for eye color. Here, it is not possible to influence this process. All this is harmless, does not affect health. If you notice this phenomenon in your baby, there is no need to panic.
At what age does this occur?
Sometimes parents notice this phenomenon innewborn babies. Blue-eyed babies become black-eyed. The final shade is formed by the age of two. Babies have poor vision until the age of three months. In the first year of life, a child may have blue eyes, which will later acquire a different shade. Many parents are surprised by this phenomenon. The reason for this is melatonin, a coloring substance (pigment) that will accumulate in the baby over time, turning his light eyes into dark ones. Dark eyes are passed on to the baby with a dominant gene from the parents. If one of his parents has brown eyes, and the other has green or blue eyes, then there is a high probability that the baby will have brown eyes, even when he was born with light ones. Read more:
