Salt damageThe harm of salt For several decades, almost everythingDoctors of the world say that the amount of the notorious NaCl in the diet should be limited so as not to accidentally earn yourself. But, according to Californian researchers, our body itself regulates the amount of salt consumed. Professor David McCarron and his colleagues have compiled data on the amount of salt eaten by a wide variety of people. It turned out that on average we consume from 2,700 to 4,900 milligrams of NaCl per day. Since a wide variety of cultures and traditions have been covered, nutritionists believe that from this it can be concluded that the body itself determines the "normal" limits of salt intake. The "salinity" of the body is maintained at a certain constant level in the same way as the body temperature. “The amount of consumption of this substance is determined by the brain, and it will not allow a person to overdo it. That is, after eating a pack of salty chips, for example, after a while you will not hesitate to switch to less salty foods. Yes, we have access to salted meals, but that doesn't mean that all this NaCl will enter our bodies, ”McCarron says. The study authors also believe the FDA guidelines are too strict. The FDA proposes to limit it to 2,300 milligrams of salt per day, which is 14.8% less than the lower limit of the real consumption range. The conclusions of the Californian scientists have already caused a wide resonance in the press. Source: membrana
