In the British family, Sarah Smith blasters are now underlock, and the boys give them only under the supervision of adults and with the requirement to wear protective goggles. In winter, a woman in the eye of a bullet blaster from a close distance did not even get a son, and the husband, when the parents played with the children. In addition to the fact that it was very painful, the woman did not see anything for about 20 minutes. "I decided that I had lost my sight forever," she recalls. Diagnosis is the flattening of the pupil. That is, the pellet just flattened it! The treatment took half a year. NERF blasters, shooting with pellets, arrows and even ice cubes, is the dream of most modern boys from five years old. And this despite the fact that they are officially recommended to children only from the age of eight. Their popularity, spurred on by television advertising, is perhaps only a little inferior to the spinners. However, doctors warn: although this is a toy weapon, the danger it carries in itself no less than the present.British doctors raised the alarm.Patients complaining of vision problems began to regularly contact them. In all cases, they were accidentally hit in the eyes by such a blaster. The consequences are unpredictable: from pain and ripples to internal bleeding. Doctors described the stories of the British victims in an article published in the BMJ Case reports journal. It is difficult to say how many people were actually injured, but they talk about three such typical cases: two adults and an 11-year-old boy were injured. “Everyone had the same symptoms: pain in the eyes, redness, blurred vision,” the doctors describe. “Everyone was prescribed eye drops, the treatment took several weeks.” Doctors note: the danger of toy bullets is in their speed and the force of impact. If you shoot from close range, and this happens in most cases, then a person can be seriously injured. But the Internet is full of videos where children are taught how to modify a blaster so that it shoots harder and further. At the same time, the blaster manufacturer, Hasbro, emphasizes in its official statement that NERF foam darts and pellets are not dangerous when used correctly. “However, consumers should never aim at the face or eyes and should always use only foam pellets and darts designed specifically for these guns,” the company insists. “There are other pellets and darts on the market that manufacturers claim are compatible with NERF blasters, but they are not marked with our trademark and may not meet our safety regulations.” Doctors from the emergency department of Moorfields Eye Hospital confirm that ersatz pellets are usually harder and pack a stronger punch. This means that the consequences can be much more serious. In general, if you want to shoot, buy special protective glasses or masks. Only then can you be sure that the game will be safe.
