What distinguishes a literary tale from the folk

- In folk tales, the plot is based on the traditional pattern, and the narrator must adhere to it. A fairy tale written by the author, can have an arbitrary version of the story.
- In a literary tale, character andappearance of heroes. The scene and events are endowed with more details. A writer has his own attitude to each hero, and this is noticeable when reading the story. While the folk tale reflects the ideals of an entire people.
- Folk tales appeared in ancient times. They reflect a person's ideas about good and evil, about moral norms. The tales of different nations show their cultural traditions and beliefs. Literary tales appeared much later than the folk.
- The folk tale was born among the people.Everyone knew such tales, thanks to oral retelling. They were not written down anywhere. They did not have a specific author. And a literary tale is the fruit of one person's imagination, written down on paper.
With the development of writing, authors began to process folk tales, introducing artistic additions to them. So they have survived to this day.
What are the similarities of Russian folk and literary tales?
Literary fairy tales repeat folklore, fairy tale attributes, pagan rituals from folk tales. In addition, these types of fairy tales have the following features in common:
- Authors in their works bestow charactersanimal human qualities, as originally applied in oral folklore. Often proverbs, sayings, common folk expressions taken from Russian folklore appear in author’s fairy tales.
- Both those and other fairy tales tell about fictional events.
- In both tales the heroes are divided intopositive and negative. At the same time, positive heroes embody the people's idea of good, justice, beauty. And negative heroes are the embodiment of evil for a person.
- In many folk and literary tales, the main character is assisted by an animal endowed with supernatural abilities.
Many authors, relying on a simple plotfolk tales, they write a more vivid and intricate story. Folk tales in a creative form reflect the consciousness of the people of the time when they were invented. And the literary tale, although it continues the cultural traditions of the people, is more an element of adventure or fantasy literature.
