- Increase reading speed. Each year, reading speed requirements are growing, so without additional training, the child can read few words per minute.
- Development horizons. The list of books teachers issue, starting with the first class. The development of horizons occurs throughout a person’s life, therefore, in the second grade, literature is designed to help continue to develop it.
- Forming the right values and attitudes. Reading stories helps to raise a child from the moral side. He formed concepts about social life.
- The assimilation of more complex material. As the child grows, the complexity of the works for the summer also changes. Every year he will learn to absorb more complex material.
That is why it is important for a child to not only spend time on the computer and outside in the summer, but also to read books.
Secondary reading speed requirements
In the second grade, the demands on the child increase:
- The number of words read per minute doubles to 65 words per minute.
- While reading, the child must read the words with the correct emphasis.
- The child must pronounce the words clearly, not swallow the sounds and clearly pronounce the endings.
To check your child's reading speed level, give him a work of his level and ask him to start reading, time it for a minute and after the time has elapsed, stop him and count the words. Compare his result with the requirements. If it does not correspond to the norm, then pay more attention to how much the child reads.
