The other day a girlfriend calls: "The holiday is under threat, the child is crying, everything is gone." Sveta had divorced a year before, and in order to please her little son on the first New Year without dad, she decided to buy a Christmas tree much in advance. I hoped that this would somehow distract Sasha from sad thoughts. But it seems that the harmful Christmas tree will not live to the main night of the year - the tree is already decently bald. A friend, of course, will have time to buy a new Christmas tree. And so that the tree did not spoil the holiday, I decided to find out how to choose the right Christmas tree for the New Year. Detailed instructions were given by an expert, an employee of the shop “Spruce trees with a needle” Yevgeny Tunik.Photo: Getty Images
Which pine needles to choose?
If you absolutely need the smell of pine needles, it is better to choosepine or Norway spruce. Danish Nordmann fir is a fluffy coniferous tree with a regular conical crown and rich green needles. Like the Fraser fir, it is much heavier and more voluminous than the Norway spruce. Both firs have non-prickly, slightly flattened needles. If you have a suburban area, then the best choice is a potted spruce. This New Year's tree has only one drawback: it is heavy, and it is difficult to transport it without male help. Please note: the spruce should not be cut and placed in a pot, but grown, with a living root system. With proper care, such a tree will survive until spring, after which it can be transplanted into open ground. By the way, if you want to surprise everyone, choose a blue spruce.Photo: Getty Images
We look at the trunk
The thicker the trunk of a spruce, the older the tree.If the height of the spruce is 1.5 meters, the diameter of the base of the trunk should be about 6-10 cm. If it is less, most likely the tree did not have enough nutrients. Such a tree will quickly begin to crumble and dry out. In addition, the older the tree, the fluffier it is. Please note: the trunk of a healthy spruce does not have traces of mold, various fungi and other signs of disease.
Turn on your sense of smell
Rub a few needles in your hand or warm them up.the tip of the branch with your breath. Did you feel a distinct pine aroma? This is a good sign. Important: if you ran your hand over the branch and needles remained on your fingers, it means that the tree is starting to crumble. The needles should be a uniform green color. Dry, red or brown needles are a sign that the tree was cut down a long time ago. Yellowness is also a harbinger of imminent death. Spruce branches should not break; on the contrary, they are elastic in the frost.
Shake christmas tree
The tree needs to be unpacked and hung up several times.hit the ground with the trunk. Not very hard, just enough to fluff it up. When the tree is wrapped in twine, all the branches are pressed against the trunk, and it is difficult to determine whether you have chosen a fluffy tree or not. During this manipulation, the needles should not fall off.Photo: Getty Images
Air the room
To make the tree stand as long as possible, you need toput it in the coolest possible place for a few days. Ideally, it is better to keep it in the garage, on the balcony or in the basement if you live in a private house, and bring it into the warmth on the eve of the holiday. The fact is that due to a sharp temperature drop, the tree can quickly crumble. The room where you put the tree should be cool if possible. Try to open the window as often as possible.
Let's add water
Many stores offer specialsstands for live cut spruce trees. They hold the tree perfectly, and you can also pour water into them. The water should be cold. In addition, you can spray the tree from a spray bottle. Aspirin and sugar are a thing of the past. Now in any supermarket you can buy a product for prolonging the life of cut spruce trees. The instructions describe in detail in what proportions the product should be mixed with water and how often it should be added.
