Rafe FiennesRalph Fiennes.Photo: Splash newsRalph Fiennes has declared war on the main gastronomic symbol of the "beautiful life" - the French dish made from goose or duck liver, foie gras. The actor calls on restaurant and supermarket management to remove this product from shelves and menus. Speaking on behalf of all PETA activists (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Fiennes says: "I hope restaurateurs and supermarket owners will make the right decision and follow in the footsteps of large British chains Selfridges and Harvey Nichols, which have already refused to sell foie gras." Foie gras is a specially prepared fatty liver of a fattened goose or duck. It is the forced fattening of birds for the production of foie gras (the so-called gavage) that causes such an active protest from PETA. At various times, Kate Winslet, Sir Roger Moore and Morrissey spoke out against the production and sale of foie gras. Together, they managed to achieve a legislative ban on the production and sale of foie gras in some US states and forced the Hilton hotel chain to remove the pate from its menu. PETA, with the help of Ralph Fiennes, hopes to achieve a complete ban on the sale of foie gras at least in the UK. It should be noted that this country has already introduced a ban on the production of the product.
