Breakfast for weight lossBreakfast should take upapproximately half of the daily caloric intake and consist mainly of proteins and carbohydrates. Such a dense meal will speed up the metabolism, eliminate the desire to eat something sweet and fatty during the day, and in the long term will help not only to lose extra pounds, but also to consolidate the result. The study, organized at the clinical hospital in Caracas (Venezuela) under the direction of the American doctor Daniela Yakubovich, involved 96 young women suffering from obesity. Half of the participants went on a diet with a daily ration of 1085 kcal and a minimum amount of carbohydrates. The energy value of breakfast in this group was only 290 kcal, and these were mainly proteins and fats. The second group also received a very modest daily ration - 1240 kcal, however, with less fat and a greater proportion of carbohydrates. But for breakfast, they allocated 690 kcal (including 58 grams of carbohydrates, as opposed to 7 grams in the first group). Four months later, the results in the first group were more impressive than in the second: here the ladies lost an average of 28 pounds, as opposed to 23 in the second group. However, after another four months, the situation changed dramatically: the women in the meager breakfast group regained 18 of the lost pounds, and in the group with a hearty breakfast, the weight loss continued and amounted to an average of 16.5 pounds. Thus, the women in the second group lost an average of 21 percent of their body weight, while the result of the first group was only 4.5 percent. According to Dr. Jakubowicz, the study participants who started the day with a hearty breakfast practically did not experience acute hunger during the day, thanks to the sufficient amount of carbohydrates in this meal: "Most studies devoted to the problem of excess weight prove that a low-carbohydrate diet is not the best way to lose weight. It only aggravates the carbohydrate craving and slows down the metabolism. As a result, after a little progress, the kilograms return." Earlier, British researchers found that people who start the day with a hearty breakfast gain weight in five years not as significantly as those who are used to getting by with a cup of coffee and candy in the morning (even if the total caloric content of the daily diet of the former is greater than that of the latter). Skipping the first meal makes us eat more at lunch and dinner - and since the metabolism slows down with large intervals between meals, the body does not have time to process much of what was eaten during the day and evening and puts it aside for later. In addition, the lack of a normal breakfast for many results in multiple pre-lunch snacks of chocolate, cookies, buns and donuts, which also have a negative effect on the figure and health in general.
