Popcorn benefits and harmPopcorn benefits and harmsA study conducted inRippe Lifestyle Institute (Florida, USA) showed that eating popcorn before a meal does not increase the total caloric content of lunch, while chips increase the amount of calories consumed by 12%. The experiment involved 35 people (aged 20-50 years). They were divided into four groups depending on what they were offered to eat before lunch:

  • Water
  • One cup of popcorn
  • Six cups of popcorn
  • One cup of chips
  • Participants were allowed to eat as much food as they wanted (afterpopcorn/chips) as much as they wanted. The results showed that in the first three groups, the total number of calories (including popcorn) increased gradually, averaging 717 kcal. But in the fourth group, the caloric content of the meal was 12% higher - an additional 86 calories. It turns out that six cups of popcorn are better than one - chips. Empty popcorn, made with air pressure (not in the microwave!), without salt, sugar and oil - is a preferable snack for those who want to lose weight than chips, candy and cookies. It provides you with coarse fiber, which improves bowel function, and does not contain fat or sugar. For taste, nutritionists suggest adding black, red pepper or other spices (but not salt) to corn. Similar studies were conducted with regard to soup: it turned out that eating the first course also leads to a reduction in the overall caloric content of the meal. Source: diet-blog.com
