The exposition includes beluga, stellate sturgeon, a real treasure of the Volga depths, something that the fish capital of Russia was once proud of. The funds were created with the help of enthusiasts and experts of this relict aquaculture. They donated their photo archives, crafts, models to the museum, and fish hatcheries allocated live exhibits. As a result, the Astrakhan museum became the custodian of the world's only live sturgeon collection. Viktor Chipinov, senior researcher at the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, says: "This planting material is inexpensive and available to every farmer, the technologies are also available and it is possible to engage in industrial commercial sturgeon farming." But the uniqueness of this collection is that it contains a variety of sturgeon species in one place. There are six of them, there is even a unique Siberian sturgeon, which is very popular today. According to scientists, up to 20 species of sturgeon are widespread on the continents of Asia and America. But the Astrakhan region is beyond competition.
