Designer of the year

We have long noticed that designer Arik Levy andspeaks brightly and works with fire (as evidenced by his kitchen project, painted with tongues of flame). Last year he outdid himself, bursting into a whole firework of extraordinary objects. The Wire table and the Level shelving unit for Zanotta, the Layer chair for Viccarbe, the crystal collection for Baccarat - and this is far from the entire list - Our congratulations to the winner! Lamp

We've loved Marcel Wanders for a long time - forsense of humor, wild imagination and the ability to balance on the edge of outrageousness and kitsch. Among the objects of his company with the modest name Moooi («So very beautiful») are furniture in the form of pets and a «burnt» chandelier, as if miraculously saved from a fire. Take a look at Wanders's latest hit - the 2014 Skygarden chandelier for Flos. Severe minimalism on the outside, rocaille tenderness on the inside… An object as extraordinary as its author! Dishes

Reinventing the Plate - The Challengemore difficult than inventing a bicycle. But the Japanese designer coped with it brilliantly. The Vertigo set for B&B Italia has nothing in common with a conventional dinner service. The number of items is odd, the shape is irregular, the material is unexpected! Seven bowls, plates or dishes are made of Corian - an ultra-modern material based on acrylic resins. At the same time, in terms of beauty and convenience, the innovative tableware is in no way inferior to traditional ones. A dizzying success! Bedroom

Attention!Don't miss the sensation on the bed market! The Prins model, designed by Carlo Colombo for Flou, shows what design thought is capable of, armed with the latest technology. The bed together with the headboard is a monolithic volume, cast in hard polyurethane. Instead of legs - a tubular base made of stainless steel. It evokes aesthetically impeccable dreams and withstands the most violent pillow fights! Salon "Twelve" BB;

Seat

Everything in furniture should be beautiful — andthe frame, the upholstery, and even the shadow it casts on the floor! The Skin sofa, designed by Jean Nouvel for Molteni, is surprisingly close to perfection. It is equally pleasant to look at and to touch. From a distance, the sofa seems like just a piece of leather, thrown with spectacular carelessness onto a metal base. Up close, it pleases the eye with its unusual treatment of the surface and the play of light penetrating through the holes in the upholstery. Simple, like all ingenious things! Decorative fabrics

When we say Marimekko, we mean it«fabrics with large prints». It would seem that over the past half century, the legendary Finnish brand has managed to creatively rethink and put into use the patterns of all times and nations. Not so, as designer Harri Koskinen has proven. In the Frekvenessi cotton fabric collection, he masterfully used African motifs, torn from the «ethnic» context and filtered to the point of pure abstraction. The refined pattern is equally impressive in black and white, and in bolder color combinations, such as anthracite and olive. Design studio A la Carte

Furniture

Looking at Xavier Last's desk, you don't want toto launch into discussions about convenience, durability, reliability, etc. Let's forget about base matters! S-TABLE by MDF Italia simply struck us with its beauty. Look at its S-shaped polyurethane "leg" - it's neither given nor taken as an abstract sculpture! At last year's Milan Salon, the designer presented the object in two versions: with a tempered glass top and a fiberboard one. We like the first one better - you can admire the shape from all sides. Plumbing

Pear bathtub, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Agape,is not suitable for being shyly pressed against the wall. The place for this plumbing masterpiece is in the center of the room! By the way, the exquisite streamlined shape is not its only advantage. The bathtub is made of a special synthetic material - exmara (a mixture of resin and quartz powder), warm and soft to the touch and retains heat perfectly. The water in it does not cool down for hours, allowing you to enjoy water treatments and magnificent design almost endlessly. Room Design Gallery

Flooring

Their union was predetermined.The Spanish company Nanimarquina has long advocated a return to nature, and the Danish designer Tord Bontje has made a name for himself by mercilessly exploiting natural motifs (his delicate floral patterns have been copied by everyone). The carpet with the poetic name "Little Field of Flowers", designed by the Dane for Nanimarquina, has already won first place in the Red Dot Award 2007 design competition. The carpet consists of several thousand leaves cut out of felt and hand-sewn onto the base. They are incredibly pleasant to walk on barefoot. To enhance the effect, we recommend loudly singing a song from "The Bremen Town Musicians": "Our carpet is a flower meadow" and so on! Spazio showroom

Wall covering

We have never seen anything like this!The Soho ceramic tile, developed by Marazzi, resembles a puzzle, the elements of which have different shapes and, most importantly, different thicknesses. Thanks to this coating, a flat wall magically becomes relief. The tile is available in four colors: there are a lot of possible options and combinations. This is a real breakthrough! The company's designers have turned all our ideas about the usual material upside down. Tiles are no longer a "second skin" for walls - they become a dress that you need to know how to wear! Discovery of the year

«Young people are welcome everywhere in our country!» This slogan is still only loosely applicable to Russian design, but the Dutch could shout it out loud. The door to the world of big design was opened for recent student Joris Laarman by his diploma project - the amazing Heatwave radiator in 2014. Last year, the Jaga company launched the project into serial production. Having developed the Nebula chandelier for Flos, Joris proved that his success with the heater was not an accident. Keep it up! Neuhaus Galleries, «Twelve» salon, Podium Home Interiors boutique

Kitchen

What is the best kitchen storage system?open or closed? Jean Nouvel has found an original compromise! His Coran Nouvel Lumieres kitchen for Ernestomeda is designed on the principle of shadow theater: translucent doors made of frosted glass plus lighting of the cabinets from the inside. The effect is mesmerizing - even if not all the kitchen utensils stored in the cabinets are masterpieces of high design. You must admit, Nouvel deserves another award! SWAG Company
