Bloody Mary's RecipeBloody Mary recipeIn honor of the anniversary in New YorkTimes Square hosted a festive event during which city residents could order a cocktail at the 1933 price of 99 cents. The cocktail, consisting of tomato juice, vodka, and , added to taste, was invented by French bartender Fernand Petiot in the 1920s in Paris. Petiot then moved to the United States, which coincided with the repeal of Prohibition and the beginning of the Great Depression in the country. Petiot later refined his cocktail, which was originally called the Red Snapper (the term "bloody" was considered too rude by US authorities). Over time, the cocktail, having acquired its new name, became extremely popular. It is worth noting that the name Mary in the name of the cocktail is mistakenly associated with the English Queen Mary I Tudor. It most likely comes from the name of a waitress who worked at the Bucket of Blood bar in Chicago.
