Herringbone "Plait"

How to make a Christmas treeHow to make a treeMaterials

  • Dark green velveteen, 30 cm (450 rub./m)
  • Foam cone, 20 x 9 cm (30 RUR)
  • Pieces of drape fabric and tapestry
  • Thin golden cord, 1 m (10 rub./m)

Tools Glue gun, sheet of paper, scissors, tweezers, tapestry needle (with a large eyelet), a flat piece of dry soap.

  • Make a paper pattern in the shape of a cone. Wrap it in a sheet of paper and cut off the excess edges at the base.
  • Cut out a base from velveteen to cover the cone(with a 0.5 cm allowance along the vertical joint), placing the strips of fabric production vertically. Mark the locations of the woven sections and make vertical cuts on them. Use the seam ripper included in the sewing machine accessory kit to make the "noodles". Choose the width of the strips depending on the texture of the fabric - 2-3 grooves of velveteen.
  • Cut strips (0.5 cm thick) for weavingfrom different drapery fabrics with pile and bright tapestry. Using tweezers, insert them between the strips of velveteen in a basket weave pattern - in a checkerboard pattern.
  • During the weaving process, glue the middle in several places and the ends of the strips to the base from the back side using Moment glue.
  • Cut all the ends of the strips into a corner. Decorate the weave with a thin golden cord, threading it under the velveteen strips through a row.
  • Using a glue gun, glue the woven base to the cone. Cover the bottom edge with a shaggy edge of drape fabric.
  • By the way

    • Velvet fabric can be used forvarious variants of decoration of cones, for example, combining it with artificial fur. Draw on the pattern of the place of filling with fur. The pattern should simulate the branches of the spruce. Cut out the "islets" using a pair of nail scissors with thin ends. At the same time, carefully cut only the dense basis of the fur, trying not to damage the pile. Sew the bottom edge and each fur piece with a stitch. From a piece of felt cut a small five-pointed star (2.5 cm), leaving a "leg" for fastening the crown of the Christmas tree. Using a glue gun, cover the cone with a cloth backing. From the top, glue all the details of the fur, putting a star in the top of the head.
    • The easiest and fastest option is to cover the cone with bright fabrics that do not require decoration. Arrange them in three "tiers" and decorate with snowflakes made of guipure.
    • Another version of a "velvet" Christmas tree can bemake according to the principle of making children's lanterns. The most difficult part is to prepare the pattern. Separate the upper part of the pattern (the upper triangle 10-12 cm high). Cut it horizontally in two places and move the parts apart in height, stepping back 3.5 cm from each other. These "straight" sections need to be cut into strips using a seam ripper. When gluing the fabric to the cone, connect the moved apart parts - you will get lanterns from strips. The remaining lower part of the pattern must be divided into three vertical parts - trapezoids. Prepare each of them in the same way and glue them in turn, precisely matching the vertical joints. Close the horizontal seam with a decorative braid. The crown can be cut out of a large square sequin and glued to the top of the head.
