Meatless dishesIf this measure is of concern to city dwellersonly a recommendation, then officials will have to give up animal food without fail. The first "vegetarian" day will start in Ghent next week. Currently, a new city map is being prepared for printing (in the amount of more than 90 thousand copies), where cafes and restaurants offering visitors a vegetarian menu are highlighted with special symbols. Representatives of the administration believe that the innovation will help people suffering from obesity to lose weight, as well as reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. After all, according to the UN, methane emitted by cows and sheep during their life has a stronger greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide, and makes up a fifth of the total volume of harmful emissions. If the project of the authorities of the Belgian city with a population of more than 230 thousand people is successful, Ghent will become the first settlement in the world in which "vegetarian days" are officially held. There is no word yet on the reaction of Ghent residents to the authorities' idea.Source: BBC News
