Multiple pregnancies are always a risk. Especially when it comes to identical twins, developing in the common amniotic sac. According to experts, in half of the cases there is a risk that the umbilical cord of babies will become confused and the babies will die of asphyxiation before birth. Vicki Plurite learned that she would have twins in the tenth week of pregnancy. “We went to the ultrasound with my sister. I didn’t even believe it at first. My husband and I already have a daughter, our Jozelin is four years old. Do I have enough strength for three children? She taunted me, everyone laughed, - Vicky. - And then the doctor said that the kids are too close to each other. I didn’t think that it could be dangerous. ”So along with joy came fear. The case of Wiki was precisely from the risk group: the kids shared one amniotic membrane for two. The case is very rare, one in 35 thousand pregnancies. “I was just in shock. Doctors explained that such proximity is harmful for babies. Their umbilical cords may become entangled and deprive babies of food and oxygen. In this case, they will die of suffocation, ”Vicki recalls.Photo: facebook.com/vicky.plowright It was too early to make any predictions. The future mother was asked to return for a second scan in another two weeks. She spent this time as if in a nightmare. “It seemed to me that I had a tantrum that would never end. I cried, I could not find a place for myself. Chris, my husband, comforted me as he could. But uncertainty was killing me, ”the wiki says. Finally, it was the day of the second ultrasound. And even the experts were amazed at the results. “We saw that our little ones approached each other even more and ... hugged each other. They were both alive, everything was fine with them. In this position, their umbilical cord simply could not get confused. The kids were safe, ”says mom.Photo: facebook.com/vicky.plowright Despite the good news, parents were still nervous: how many babies can turn in the womb. But it was quite comfortable for them: they rested in each other’s arms. Doctors examined Vika every week or two - there was no cause for concern. The babies held hands and waited calmly for their time. And on the 13th week, the umbilical cord of one of the babies turned around slightly. The probability that the umbilical cords will become entangled became even smaller. At the 17th week, Vika learned that she would have boys. And on the 32nd, doctors advised the woman to agree to a cesarean: one of the babies stopped growing due to the fact that the two of them were too crowded in the stomach. . The boys called Ruben and Theo. They had to stay in the hospital longer than usual, because they had to appear on the light a little earlier. After five weeks, Ruben and Theo had already caught up with their peers in terms of weight and development and went home. Very soon they will celebrate the two-year anniversary. “You know, they are simply inseparable now, just like before birth,” Vicki smiles.Photo: facebook.com/vicky.plowright
