"Farm", "Zoo", "Amusement Park", ""Fire Station" ... Such a variety of design kits in my childhood was not. Ordinary bricks - whatever you want, then create. The Soviet teacher, one of the founders of the method of early development Boris Nikitin - one of those who promoted designers to the masses. He said that ready-made toys deprive the child of the opportunity to create himself. "Often we see such a picture: the child has a lot of toys, but he does not play with them? The main reason is that the toys have already "exhausted themselves". The element of novelty has disappeared, "Nikitin wrote in his manual Developing Games. Another thing is the designer. From it you can build much more toys. Moreover, the child creates himself, he is already a creator, and not a consumer who plays with what he was given.A photo: Getty Images Now the set of parts for the designer is much more diverse. The wheels are already screwed, the planes, the ships are built. What and where to strengthen is carefully described in the diagrams. All variants are thought up for the child. "Nikitin noted: the more combinations can be made from the details, the more interesting and useful it is for the development of this toy." Pyramids, mosaics do not induce children to intensified mental activity, do not require significant stresses from them, do not outstrip development of the child, and at best satisfy only its immediate needs, "the teacher said. Does this mean that the ready-made" Lego "sets limit the child's imagination? American artist Nathan Sawaya became famous all over the world thanks to the designer. Exhibition of his sculptures "Lego Art" leading media included in the top ten most spectacular and compulsory to visit. The statues "David" and "Venus de Milo", paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Munch - all this Nathan reproduces with the help of "Lego" .- When I grew up, the designer was in the standard form of a rectangle, - says Nathan. - I still use this way - it's my favorite form. The magic of my sculptures is that they use ordinary bricks that create a shape. If you look closely at them, you see all the corners, but move away to a distance, and the object will become outline, become more natural. However, ready-made sets also give the child a chance to explore different approaches to creating figures using specialized parts. I do not think that they limit man's imagination. Sometimes I look at specialized parts and start thinking how I can use them, where they can be attached in my sculptures.Photo: artofthebricks. In addition, the kits can be mixed, because the details of "Lego" are universal. True, the prices for the designers of this brand are quite high. On the other hand, the details are durable, and most importantly, they will not leave traces of the house, like clay or clay. "The designer is a very accessible material for the creation of art objects," says Nathan. - The first step is an idea. I draw them from travel, from meetings with interesting people. I write down all the ideas. Later in my head, some kind of concept is being formed, which I am expressing on paper - I am doing sketches. And then I start to create. I build a brick from the bottom up. I have to glue the designer together so that the figures stand the tours around the world. Therefore, you need to be sure of what you collect. But what beauty can be made from a conventional designer.
