Material matters
The material for the sides should be dense, natural and hypoallergenic. Flannel, chintz, calico, linen or cotton are ideal. They are also usually the most suitable colors - colorful and cheerful. The most difficult thing is to choose the right filler. What are the options?
- Foam is a resistant material, but it is difficult to dry after washing. He holds the moisture for a long time, therefore, a variety of microbes are produced in it.
- Synthepone is the best option. It is inexpensive, light, fast drying. The only downside - over time, sintepon can roll down. So the baby will not be in forever.
- Holofayber is another good material. Its main advantage is that it does not cause allergies and is completely harmless for children.
- Holcon is suitable for cool rooms. It perfectly keeps the heat.
- Polyester does not roll, it also keeps the heat well. This material does not absorb moisture and unpleasant odors.
For business!
First, let's decide on the size - ours are lowthere will be sides or high ones. High ones protect the baby better from the cold and reduce the likelihood of him hitting himself to zero. However, they block the child's entire view. Low ones, on the contrary, allow the child to observe what is happening in the room, but will not completely protect from the draft. Have you decided? Now let's get to work.
- First we make patterns from paper. Do not forget to indent the seams. The geometry of the border is usually very simple: it is a rectangle with strings. On each wall of the crib you will need two rectangles - between them will lie filler.
- We transfer the pattern to the fabric. Do not forget to wash it properly before sewing.
- Cut the filler into pieces of the correct size. By the way, it would be nice to wash it, too.
- If you want to make frills, it's better before you stitch it with filler inside. Just attach the trimmed tape to the outside.
- Sew two sides of the rim on three sides. Place the filler in the workpiece, secure it from the last side.
- Sew ribbon-ties.
If you want, you can make several of thempockets for storing toys or children's books. They will be much more useful than frills. In general, special sewing skills are not required for this. And to help you - our video with a master class. See also:
