Opinion "for"

Natalia had both experience and knowledge, sothe choice was made in favor of home birth. Her eldest son was born in a medical facility, and her two younger daughters were born in their own home. “We were looking for a maternity hospital that would meet our requirements - no accelerating or other drugs, my husband’s presence during the birth, the baby staying with me after birth, not cutting the umbilical cord right away, taking the placenta, no vaccinations or medical interventions unless necessary. At that time, in our city, Rostov-on-Don, not a single maternity hospital could comprehensively provide all of this. Having weighed all the pros and cons, I came to the conclusion that home birth was right for me. My husband agreed, having worried at first about “what if suddenly.” I had no doubts at all. I am healthy, the pregnancy is proceeding normally, the fetus is developing without pathologies, so in an absolutely physiological process, no “what if suddenly” can happen. And I didn’t wind myself up with any fears, which is also important. Everything went pretty quickly and even fun, because I had a friend with her adult daughter visiting me – they came to celebrate the New Year and wanted to see me before the birth, which according to the calendar was scheduled for January 7. And it all started on the evening of December 30. At about four o’clock my water broke, and at 6:50 p.m. I gave birth. My hair was down. Decisions were made intuitively and quickly. Everyone understood each other without discussing. I gave birth standing up, holding on to my husband. There was a disposable diaper on the floor. No one fell out on the floor! The midwife delivered the baby. I chose the position of my body myself – based on how I felt, I just wanted it that way, as if I knew that it was necessary. I didn’t think about it in advance – I understood that my body would tell me everything. The baby was lightly wiped down – we didn’t try to wash everything off her. Everything was fine with the girl. The umbilical cord was not cut right away. But during the evening we watched how the little wrinkled lump was transformed right before our eyes! She "sucked" all the blood back through the umbilical cord, her face acquired a normal color, her skin evened out. And when the umbilical cord is cut right away, the baby takes much longer to take on this appearance - several days." Even the midwife did not make it in time for the birth of the second daughter; Natalia's husband delivered the girl.Photo: Getty Images

From those who are "against"

When you learn about such a positive experience, you start thinking about your future. But don't rush. To make such an important decision, you need to weigh everything.

  • It is important to remember that no matter how healthya woman, the outcome of a physiological process, like birth, no one can predict. Yes, in most cases everything ends well, but no mom will want to be in the minority. The argument "before women in the fields gave birth, and nothing" here does not work, because the mortality of babies and even mothers was much higher.
  • Future parents often feel that if theyinvite an experienced midwife, this will insure them from trouble. And it's good if such a midwife with the necessary education, experience, qualification is found. About the license speech does not go, because in Russia home births are illegal. The right midwife will be able to determine in time when something is going wrong, and at least able to call up a rescue team. Wrong, greedy for money, which, unfortunately, the majority, will until the last assured parents that everything is going well, despite the fact that the woman gives birth to the third day. And after the birth of a dead child, most likely, he will wash his hands. The statistics of infant mortality in home births in our country is not and can not be. But there is the Internet and the stories of experienced parents ... Information is our everything.
  • "Fast" under the windows, of course, an option for those, who is able to buy it. But who will be able to buy empty roads in a megalopolis, when time goes on for a minute? And in fact, no one will allow an ambulance to be standing under the windows of the mother in a situation of universal necessity. When it comes to life or death, self-deception is not worth doing.
  • Fortunately, modern maternity hospitals began to come tounderstanding the special importance of the proximity of mother and child. Now in most medical institutions introduced laying the baby on his stomach, applying it to his chest, joint stay, childbirth with her husband if desired. Yes, there are disadvantages, and they can not escape from them - the early cutting of the umbilical cord, the inability to be with the child from birth (the babies are first taken to inspections, etc.), the stimulation of childbirth, vaccinations during the unsettled immunity. Each mother makes the decision herself. It is important that the choice be conscious.
