His first New Year, my son met in 3.5month. It was the first and last holiday for a long time, when we did not put a Christmas tree. They decorated the apartment with tinsel and garlands, and toys - literally a few plastic balls - were hung on the palm of the room. Admiration was not the limit: everything glitters, shimmers, bright, colorful. A year later almost all New Year's attributes returned to our apartment. And now, when the child is already six, strong fingers can be entrusted even with the most fragile glass toys.Photo:GettyImagesBut before that, of course, not all toys had a place in our house - for the sake of children's safety. We had to adhere to a number of restrictions. - No glass toys. Even on the very top branches of the tree. The ball can fall completely by accident and on its own, even if you don't pull it. - We plug garlands into the most inaccessible sockets. It is desirable that the baby does not even see where they are plugged into. Let's consider it magic. - We either get rid of tinsel for a couple of years completely, or hang it so that it is out of reach. Because if a child pulls one thread, the whole tree will fall. Well, pulling it out of a child's mouth is also not the greatest pleasure. Especially since it is a Christmas tree decoration. - Toys with glitter. To be honest, I do not like them at all - after them, absolutely everything sparkles. Just give a child one of these in his hand – he will have these sparkles everywhere. — Pointed toys: stars, icicles. Either hang them high or remove them altogether. — Characters that the child is afraid of, if there are any. For example, my son was afraid of snowmen for a couple of years. So decorations with their image gathered dust in a box. A holiday is not the time to fight fears “by contradiction”. — Cookies, apples, candies. No, edible toys are good, and I have nothing against them. But it is better to have fun with this if you are sure that the child can already carefully remove them from the tree on his own. — Toys from grandma’s chest. Simply because it would be a shame to break them. Leave such family decorations until you are ready to tell their story to the child. And most importantly! There is no place for low-quality toys in the house, no matter what they are made of. When buying a new outfit for the Christmas tree, pay attention to the following. 1. Are the sharp edges of glass decorations protected by caps, and are the fastening elements of the toy itself firmly held? 2. Are there any defects, drips, air bubbles, or displacements of the pattern relative to the relief or contour in the picture? 3. Do the toys smell - there should be no foreign odors! Smelly toys may contain impurities of hazardous substances. Before buying, study the label: the composition should not contain phenol and formaldehyde. 4. Is the paint durable? This can be checked like this: wrap it in a napkin and rub it a little. If the paint remains on the napkin, it means it is bad. 5. Are small decorative elements glued well: rhinestones, beads? 6. Are there sharp edges, scratching burrs, glue residues, protruding needles and other hazardous elements.
