Should I get vaccinated against measles?
Some parents doubt the necessity of measles vaccination, and now this procedure is not mandatory. But other parents still vaccinate their children against measles.Vaccinating children against measles helps prevent severe illnessperiod of illness, as well as the occurrence of complications. Photo: Getty The period from birth to 9 months is relatively safe for the baby, since his body contains the mother's antibodies that protect him from diseases. But if the mother has not been vaccinated, then he will not have this immunity. Vaccination is useful because:
- Vaccination reduced the death rate from measles.
- It protects the child from illness and possible complications.
- During vaccination, a weakened virus is introduced into the baby's body. After this, immunity to the disease develops.
- Reducing the risk of epidemics.
For these reasons, it is worth getting vaccinated to reduce the risk of illness and complications.
At what age do you need to vaccinate?
Vaccination is carried out three times:
- In year;
- At 6 years;
- At the age of 14-17.
The vaccine is administered into the upper arm, undershoulder blade or thigh. The first vaccination is about 90 percent effective. At 6 years of age, the effectiveness reaches 95 percent, and in adolescence, it reaches 100 percent.
Side effects and condition of the child after vaccination
Often there are no side effects, but some people may experience the following symptoms:
- Temperature increase. It can reach 38 degrees.
- Conjunctivitis.
- A mild rash.
Certain complications may also arise:
- Allergic reaction.
- Convulsions.
- Problems with the nervous system.
Although side effects and complications may occurappear, in most cases the condition of children after vaccination remains normal, they do not get sick and feel normal. But still monitor the condition of the baby when he is vaccinated, so that if anything happens, consult a doctor. Although the measles vaccination can now be omitted, and many parents refuse it, it still reliably protects the immune system from the virus. If vaccinated, then the person will not get measles during his life. If the vaccination was not carried out in childhood, an adult may get sick, who will have a harder time tolerating the disease.
