Photo: YouTubeOn Friday at 8 a.m. local time, the rescue service received a call about a black bear hanging between the branches of a tree located at the interchange of Highway 8 leading to Turnpike. Why the animal needed to climb there remains a mystery. It is unlikely that the bear was trying to get its bearings in this way. Rescuers who arrived from Highstown found the unlucky bear in the crown of the tree at a height of about 5-7 meters from the ground. It was obvious that he could not get down from there on his own. According to the original plan, the rescuers were going to shoot the bear with tranquilizers and let him fall from the tree onto a special rescue trampoline. However, after receiving the first dose of tranquilizer in the thigh, the frightened bear managed to climb even higher and ended up at a height of about 10 meters above the ground, finally getting stuck among the branches. To free him, they had to call a team of firefighters from another town, Cranbury, since they had a car with a retractable platform at their disposal. The second dose of tranquilizer was injected into the bear manually, after which the people who were rescuing him had to first saw off some of the branches of the crown and only then safely drag the immobilized bear onto the platform, and from there - into the cage. After the bear is examined for possible injuries, they plan to release him further from the highway, in the forest. According to the firefighters who were directly involved in freeing the bear from captivity, at first they were most worried about how not to drop the animal before they managed to drag him onto the platform. And then, when he was already peacefully snoring at their feet, the main concern was that he would not wake up prematurely. During the rescue operation, traffic on the highway and interchanges was partially blocked. However, motorists stopped with great interest to stare at the unusual spectacle created on this section of the road. In early April, the world learned of another miraculous rescue of an animal - a dog drifting in the open sea after the tsunami.
