Tea bagInvention of the tea baghappened by accident. When sending samples of his product to customers, New York tea merchant Thomas Sullivan, in order to reduce costs, would put tea in small pinches in small silk bags. Customers, not understanding the intricacies of the resourceful merchant, would lower the bags into hot water. Thus, a new method of brewing tea was born. Before that, the procedure for preparing this drink required more time and diligence. Tea bags entered mass production only in 1953, having undergone several modifications: first, silk bags were replaced with gauze, and later - with paper ones. Now in America alone, about 130 million tea bags are used daily. A modern bag contains an average of 3.125 grams of tea. Source: RIA Novosti.
