Mediterranean menu of researchers from Athensand Harvard University for eight and a half years, observed 23,349 residents of Greece who agreed to participate in the experiment. Scientists collected and analyzed data on the daily diet, as well as bad habits, physical activity, diseases and mortality. Based on statistical calculations, they were able to determine which of the product groups are really healthy and how much. The authors of the study identified nine: vegetables, beans, fruits and nuts, bakery products, fish and seafood, dairy products, low meat consumption, moderate consumption of alcohol, the ratio of vegetable and animal fats. Paradoxically, the leader was moderate consumption of alcohol. It contributes 23.5% of the effect in favor. True, scientists note that by "moderate" is understood the dose of 10 to 50 ml of wine per day. More is already a negative effect. The second most important factor was the almost complete rejection of meat and products from it - it contributes 16.6% of the effect. The third is the consumption of a large number of vegetables - 16.2%, slightly less significant factors were fruits and nuts (11.2%), consumption of vegetable fats instead of animals (10.6%) and legumes (9.7%) (the most characteristic vegetable fat for Greece - olive oil, and beans - beans). Outsiders of the list were bread (6.1%) and dairy products (4.5%). It is noteworthy that fish and seafood have no significant effect on mortality at all. According to the British Medical Journal.
