Mold on breadMold on breadThe authors of the study, scientists fromUniversity of Zaragoza, note that previously, a variety of methods have been tried to combat mold: ultraviolet irradiation, sterile packaging, and various chemicals. In their opinion, the best method may be to use "active packaging", which itself "attacks" the fungus. Scientists made several versions of "active packaging" from wax paper soaked in cinnamon oil in different concentrations. Then they "infected" fresh mold with some varieties and left it for several days, wrapping one piece in regular paper and the other in "active". The results showed that packaging containing only 6% cinnamon oil inhibited mold growth by 96%. Such paper retained its antifungal properties for more than ten days. Let us also recall that in July, a group of Taiwanese scientists reported that they had discovered that cinnamon oil had repellent properties - according to their data, this substance, even in small quantities, effectively kills mosquitoes.
