Some facts about doors1 Sliding doors andPartitions can move along the wall or go inside the wall. The first type of construction is easier to install, but this option has its limitations: the wall will have to be cleared of furniture, sockets and switches. A wide baseboard can also be a serious obstacle. Doors that retract into a pencil case will not create such difficulties. But their installation involves partial dismantling of the wall (this is necessary to build a special pencil case into it) and its subsequent restoration. 2 The main advantage of sliding doors is space saving. But from a design point of view, they are much more complex, and therefore, all other things being equal, they are more expensive. Wide sliding doors up to the ceiling belong to the category of interior partitions. They allow you to model the space and change its appearance literally with one movement of the hand. The largest sliding structures can include up to 10 panels (both mobile and stationary). 3 Most often, guides for sliding doors are built into the floor. To prevent the canvas from falling to the side, the lower rail is supplemented with an upper guide. This option is good for sliding wardrobes and dressing rooms, but is not suitable for other rooms - you can trip over the protrusion of the rail, and it will not add beauty to your interior either. It is better to use a hanging rail. Some manufacturers equip the lower part of suspended partitions with rubberized wheels, which help to avoid skidding (the higher and wider the canvas, the more it will deviate from the specified trajectory).Interior swing doorsInterior swing doorsSliding door coupeSliding door coupe4 According to the degree of reliability, locks are divided into fiveclasses. The weakest one can be overcome in about three minutes. A product with a C grade will resist for 15-20 minutes. If a thief has to spend an hour at the door, the lock is considered good. If master keys do not help and a crowbar is used, we have an excellent example. Moral of the story: if there is something to profit from in the apartment, it is better to get a lock of at least the 4th class. 5 Locks are cylinder and lever. The former have more than 4 billion combinations (in case of breakage, they are drilled out and sent for repair). Locks of the second type have about 200 thousand combinations (in case of malfunction, they have to be cut out together with part of the door). There are also devices from the 2 in 1 series - when mechanical action is applied to one lock, the second will be automatically blocked. You can also install two locks of different types. This will make life more difficult for burglars and easier for you - even if one lock breaks, the doors of your house will be on .6 Moscow is often called the city of iron doors. However, it is in your power to make sure that the door does not give away its metal nature. To do this, you can cover it with leather, decorate it with wood, etc. The only "but": if there is no security in the house, you should not be too zealous with the decor. A door that stands out as a bright spot against the background of neighboring ones will become the object of increased attention from intruders.7 The reliability of an iron door does not depend on its weight. Moreover, installing a structure that is too heavy (100 kg or more) is unsafe - it can knock you down. Much more important is the method of welding your door. Regular welding can crack and crumble over time. As a result, the strength of the structure will suffer greatly. It is better to buy a door made using the cold welding method, - it gives the strength of seams up to 540 kg per square meter. 8 The hinges of an iron door can be welded tightly to the frame. It would seem simple and reliable. But at the slightest distortion of the door (which is possible due to its large weight) the frame will have to be broken. But hinges on screws will allow you to quickly fix the problem. 9 According to Russian standards, doors open towards you, according to European standards - away from you, i.e. the model that is considered left-handed in our country is listed as right-handed among foreigners. Do not make a mistake when you place an order in the store and choose door hinges!10 If you decide to buy solid wood doors, thenRemember that the humidity in the room should not be less than 40 percent, otherwise the wood will dry out. Do not store purchased doors in the garage or in the attic of a summer cottage. Due to the temperature and humidity changes, the door will inevitably warp, and the varnish or paint covering it will crack. Panel doors (with a filler made of MDF, chipboard, etc.), finished with veneer and laminate are much less sensitive to the effects of humidity and temperature. 11 The most durable doors are paneled, made of solid valuable and hard wood. For example, oak, walnut, yew and rosewood. Doors made of soft coniferous wood can also serve you for many decades if you cover them with paint (however, it will have to be refreshed periodically). In general, if you like painted or painted doors, it is better to opt for pine - this is a real way to save money. There is no point in using valuable wood species for painting, because they are valued primarily for their natural beauty. 12 When exposed to light, veneer changes its color - it becomes darker or, conversely, lighter. So do not be surprised if the veneered door you buy is slightly different from the one you saw in the showroom. 13 High-quality laminate can imitate wood so convincingly that it is almost impossible to distinguish a fake from the original. However, in terms of price, such doors are not much different from veneered ones, so the game is hardly worth the candle. In addition, both veneer and laminate have a common drawback - over time, chips can form on the doors. The more durable and flexible modern material laminatin is completely devoid of this disadvantage.14 Doors installed close to the wall are difficultframed with a door frame, so they look short and unsightly. In addition, regular collisions of the door leaf with the wall will lead to its deformation. If you cannot avoid unpleasant neighbors, buy doors that do not open completely, but only 130-150 degrees. And do not forget about the limiters - they can be stationary (built into the floor) or mobile. 15 Interior doors are hung only after finishing work is completed. Ideally, the furniture should also be in place - so as not to accidentally scratch the doors during the transportation of tables and sofas. If there is no furniture yet, put it on the plan - this will help determine which way (towards you or away from you) the doors will open. The doors to the toilet and bathroom should open away from you: if a child locked in there decides to cause a universal flood, you will be able to quickly break them down.16 Observe the proportions! If the ceilings in the house are higher than three meters, choosing doors less than 2.2 m high is pointless. Keep in mind that the basic height of doors is 200-210 cm. You will have to pay extra for non-standard ones, and significantly - up to 30-40%, and it can take up to three months to fulfill such an order. If you want to visually increase the area of the room, order a door with a transom design - a glass insert under the ceiling. And high double doors will help to give the space a ceremonial scale.17 From the point of view of sound insulation, sliding doorsare inferior to swing doors. The fact is that during their installation, gaps inevitably appear through which noise leaks. To reduce its level, manufacturers equip their models with special brushes and rubber seals. If you want the room to be as quiet as a tank, buy a regular solid wood door.18 Glass is the most dangerous material for interior doors. It breaks, shatters, scratches, etc. However, thanks to progress, this problem is successfully solved. Instead of ordinary fragile glass, manufacturers use tempered glass or triplex for their doors. To give the structure additional strength, it is glued with a special film. The standard thickness of high-quality glass doors and partitions is 5 mm. But for some manufacturers it reaches 8-12 mm. This option is the most reliable.
