Room decoration
The basis of the Scandinavian style in the interior isaesthetic beauty and open space filled with air and light. The first step to this is perfectly flat ceilings and walls. Most often, large sums are spent on finishing. However, there are options on what you can save. Here are some tips:
- choose the wall clapboard and then paint it white;
- if the walls are brick, you can leave some of them as they are, only by leveling them a little;
- refuse additional designs on ceilings and walls.
In Scandinavian style, preference is given tonatural materials, such as untreated wood, the price of which is quite high. You will spend less money if you choose modern materials that imitate the texture of wood. Our choice: tiles, linoleum, laminate, floorboards, parquet boards, painted plywood, wood panels, clapboard, plaster, paint.
Furniture and storage
Expensive cabinet furniture is not our option.But open shelves, racks, storage systems are what you need! This fashion came to Russia together with Swedish furniture malls and won a large audience. This type of furniture has many advantages: cabinets are easy to assemble yourself and arrange as you wish. At the same time, things are easy to place. And open, compact racks will allow you to realize your design ideas, expand the space of the room and get rid of the eternal chaos in closed cabinets. Furniture should be present in minimal quantities, so it is better to choose folding tables and chairs, sofa beds. They can be made of plastic, metal or wood. Our choice: racks and furniture made of light wood species, upholstery made of textiles, leather, linen, suede.Photo: Getty Images
Decor and texture
This style does not imply excesses and unnecessaryknickknacks in the decor that make the finishing more expensive. There are no ceiling moldings or baseboards here. Originality is achieved by playing with color and texture, bright accents. Bright "spots" look good against the background of monochrome walls (white or gray). Fuchsia, yellow, scarlet - the choice of color depends on your preferences, but do not overdo it. You should also remember the classic combination of black and white. Handmade items are well suited for decor: colorful knitted rugs, embroidered tablecloths and napkins, homemade vases. Large photographs or posters can be placed on the walls. A must-have element in apartments decorated in Scandinavian style are live plants. You can choose both traditional small flowers on the windowsill and trees in floor pots or decorative buckets. The green color of the leaves will add a feeling of freshness and cleanliness to the room. When choosing textiles, pay attention to natural, discreet fabrics. For example, these could be plain linen furniture covers or bedspreads with a muted ethnic print. Our choice: pillows, lampshades, paintings, wicker baskets, ceramics, glass vases, plain or patchwork rugs.Photo: Getty Images
Room lighting
The ideal for Scandinavian style is a combinationnatural and artificial lighting. To add daylight to the room, drape the windows only with transparent fabrics. Heavy curtains are a categorical no! Artificial lighting should not be concentrated in one chandelier in the middle of the room. In our case, floor lamps, backlights, sconces, lamps will do. Our choice: large wooden windows and light curtains, lamps, candles, floor lamps.
