Photo by Victor Chernyshev This little competitiondecorating a chair is a joint event of the Interior Design School "Details" and the Furniture Factory "March 8". Its goal is to find out whether the school graduates have learned to think in images, forms, colors, and textures. To implement their ideas, the competition participants were offered a classic-shaped chair with linen upholstery. The aspiring decorators united in groups; as they say, one head is good, but much better. We publish the four most interesting fantasies on the given topic.
Harlequin
How to make a chairDecorators Ekaterina and Maria like itcontrasting graphic compositions. This is how the chair with a pattern of black and white diamonds was born. It resembles the cheerful Harlequin, a character from the Italian folk comedy "Del'Arte". As a result, the piece of furniture migrated from its classical family to another style. It is quite difficult to define it, but most likely, due to its theatricality, it is Art Deco. A bright orange diamond enlivens the geometric pattern. This chair will become a strong accent in the interior, it will be difficult to find the surroundings for it. But it hardly makes sense to place another object with the same color scheme in the room. It is better if the rest of the room is designed in gray and white tones. The decorators used Decola textile painting materials (Art Paints Factory, Russia) in their work. Project authors Maria Pilipenko, Ekaterina FedorovaPhoto 1.Using a simple pencil, draw a grid of diamonds on the entire chair. Make sure that they are the same size. The pencil drawing is outlined with a special black outline for fabric. Photo 2. Using a flat brush, the diamonds are covered with black paint in a checkerboard pattern. Photos 3, 4. Cut a diamond out of thick orange fabric and attach it to the back of the chair with silicone glue. You can fix the paints with a hot iron or a hair dryer. If you do not do this, the paints will fade when you try to upholster the fabric with an aqueous solution of detergent.
Vegetables fruits
This chair is for those who have a sense of humor. The item is conceived as a funny conversation piece that will add a touch of irony to any interior (even the most tranquil one). The decorators used the motifs of an old advertisement - this is how a Japanese company selling vegetables and fruits declared itself. The creation of "Group One" is called "Vegetables and Fruits". The guys scanned the images they liked (a boy-tomato and a girl-onion) and ordered 2 running meters of satin with a repeating pattern. The order was completed by an agency providing full-color printing on fabric. And then it was a piece of cake. The authors of the project "Group One"Photo 1. The required number of pictures was cut out of the obtained fabric to fill the surface of the chair with them. The remaining fabric was useful for pillows. Photo 2. Funny faces were sewn to the upholstery of the chair with the help of floss threads in a contrasting color. And deliberately uneven wide stitches.
Chair for Veronica
Of all the design options offered to usThis chair is perhaps the most practical. The idea for the decoration was inspired by the classic shape of the object and its light upholstery made of natural linen. The decorators wanted to support the theme of romance and classics. And they came up with the image of a young girl for whom this chair could be intended. The girl's name is Veronica. She is romantic, loves to read long novels and skillfully uses the contents of her grandmother's chest, finding there either old braid or vintage lace. Authors of the project Olga Rubeykina, Yana Potapova, Ira ZharinovaPhoto 1.To create such a chair you will need jacquard tape and buttons with rhinestones. The tape should be different in width and pattern, but suitable in color and style. The tape is laid out along the chair. During the fitting process, it is determined how many rhinestones and tape and in what sequence it will be necessary to sew to the upholstery. Photo 2, 3. First, the tape is attached with safety pins, and then sewn with small and neat stitches. Lastly, the rhinestones are attached to the upholstery.
Warm embrace
This friendly team loves to play on contrastsmaterials and shapes. The idea for the chair's finish was inspired by ordinary gloves. Soft palms embrace the noble classic shapes of the seat and armrests, softening their slightly cold appearance. Fluffy angora and rough linen - yin and yang, male and female principles, presented in a playful form. "The skill of imaginative thinking acquired during the study is indispensable for a decorator. "Inspiration can be drawn from simple things that surround us," the girls say. Project authors Irina Anisimov, Alevtina Kalinina, Elena Logunova, Valentina KhaplanovaPhoto 1,2.First, the fingers of the gloves were stuffed with padding polyester. Then they were distributed over the chair and fixed with pins. After that, the gloves were sewn to the upholstery with hidden stitches. Some fingers were left free. The chair was placed on skis painted ivory.
