In fact, the appearance and life of furniture(any, not necessarily soft) depends not only on the materials from which it is made, but also on how correctly you used it and ... cleaned it. And if you were lucky enough to become the owner of, say, a stylish sofa with upholstery made from natural fabric, then you probably know how hard it is to take care of it. Together with the Crate and Barrel experts, we gathered a few tips to help put the sofas, armchairs, or ottomans in order.Photo: Getty Images
Burnt upholstery
There is nothing worse than faded upholstery thatcan turn even the most stylish sofa into something very unattractive. Therefore, in order for the sun's rays not to affect the condition of the fabric, making it duller, such furniture should be placed where there is no direct sunlight. Otherwise, you will have to completely renew the upholstery (unless, of course, you have the opportunity or desire to buy a new sofa).
Unattractive cushions
This is not about colors and shapes - it's a matter oftaste, as they say. We mean deformed sofa cushions, the shabby appearance of which does not decorate your living room at all. This does not mean that you need to use the sofa as little as possible for its intended purpose, so that its neat appearance pleases you as long as possible. If you want to preserve the shape (and appearance) of the sofa cushions for a long time, then it is enough to turn them over or swap them at least once a week.
Dirt and dust in hard-to-reach places
We are sure that at least one person has encountered this problemeach of us at some point. Therefore, it is necessary to vacuum your upholstered furniture daily with a special attachment so that dust accumulation in the upholstery (between seams and parts) does not lead to an unpleasant odor, allergies and other unpleasant consequences.
Spots and stains
Often, it is difficult to deal with stains on your own.leads to unattractive stains appearing on the upholstery, which are very difficult to deal with later. If, say, you spilled some liquid on the sofa, you should not rub the stain with special diligence - this will only soak the dirt deeper into the fabric, and then you will have to completely change the upholstery or buy a cover/plaid for the sofa. The spilled liquid must be carefully blotted with a soft cloth (from the edges to the middle) and, if necessary, call a professional service.
Coloring materials
Everyone knows that newspapers or jeans, if theyare made of low-quality material, can leave marks on the upholstery and spoil the presentation of upholstered furniture. Especially if you have a light-colored sofa and no throws or blankets are provided. There is only one piece of advice in this case. Try not to leave such items on the furniture, and then you don’t have to worry about possible color loss or dark spots on light-colored upholstery. Once a year, it is necessary to carry out a general cleaning of upholstered furniture (regardless of how clean it looks)
