Import to RussiaPhoto: ShutterstockIn early 2010, Rospotrebnadzor banned the supply of American chicken to Russia, despite the fact that it accounted for almost 80% of all imports of poultry meat to the country. As the main reason, the use of chlorine from chicken manufacturers was mentioned in the treatment of chickens, whereas in our country since January 2010 new sanitary and hygienic requirements have come into force that prohibit the processing of poultry meat with chlorine with a higher concentration than in drinking water. After that, the importation of chicken from the United States ceased, as American poultry farmers use a higher concentration of chlorine in the processing of chicken carcasses. After this ban, a complex negotiating process between the countries began, while Russia was negotiating the supply of poultry products from other countries, and also concentrated efforts on an increase in domestic production of chicken. Today, the US ambassador to Russia, John Beyrle, said that the import of American chicken into Russia can be resumed in less than two months month. Contradictions between US suppliers and Rospotrebnadzor managed to be removed in the course of n Americans offered the Russian side a list of 24 drugs that can replace chlorine-containing substances. Of these drugs, half are registered in Russia, and three are allowed to process chicken. Now, to resume shipments of chicken meat from the US to Russia, it is necessary that manufacturers confirm the transition to new technologies. After that, two or three weeks will take delivery by sea and customs clearance.
