Import to RussiaImport to Russia Photo:Shutterstock In early 2010, Rospotrebnadzor banned the supply of American chicken to Russia, despite the fact that it accounted for almost 80% of all poultry meat imports into the country. The main reason was the use of chlorine by US manufacturers in the processing of chickens, while in our country, in January 2010, new sanitary and hygienic requirements came into force prohibiting the processing of poultry meat with chlorine with a higher concentration than in drinking water. After that, the import of poultry from the United States stopped because American poultry farmers use a higher concentration of chlorine in the processing of chicken carcasses. After this ban, a complex negotiation process began between the countries, while at the same time Russia was negotiating the supply of poultry products from other countries, and also focused on increase in domestic production of chicken. Today, US Ambassador to Russia John Beyrle announced that imports of American chicken to Russia could resume in less than two months. The contradictions between American suppliers and Rospotrebnadzor were removed in the course of p. The Americans offered the Russian side a list of 24 drugs that can replace chlorine-containing substances. Half of these drugs are registered in Russia, and three are allowed for the processing of chicken. Now, in order to resume the supply of chicken meat from the United States to Russia, it is necessary that producers confirm the transition to new technologies. After that, shipping by sea and customs clearance will take two to three weeks.
