Roman curtain

One of the oldest methods of window draping— its history dates back to the era of Ancient Rome. Such a curtain is a flat piece of fabric, divided into equal horizontal sections. In each such section, rods made of wood or fiberglass are sewn in to limit and fix it. You can raise the curtain by pulling the cord, threaded from the inside through loops or rings sewn onto the fabric.Script carpet and Element, Paola Lenti chairs, “Flat Interiors” salonScript carpet and Element, Paola Lenti chairs, “Flat Interiors” salon

Felt

A close relative of felt (in many languages(they are designated by the same word), one of the most ancient materials known to mankind. People learned to make it long before the invention of the loom. Felt, like the rougher-textured felt, is obtained by felting hare, rabbit and goat down, wool or fur waste. Felt can be smooth or pile. It is used to make hats, berets and thin felt boots, and is also often used for finishing furniture. Recently, felt wallpaper has come into fashion: this is either felt glued to a paper base, or its imitation made of foamed polypropylene.

The fabric with a relief pattern is named afterJoseph Marie Jacquard is a 19th-century French inventor. He improved the design of a loom so that it could weave fabric with a pattern. For this, Emperor Napoleon awarded Jacquard a pension of 3,000 francs and the right to collect a bribe of 50 francs from each loom of his design operating in France. In 1840, a monument was erected to the inventor in his hometown of Lyon. On the reverse side of jacquard fabrics, the pattern appears according to the principle of negative - the shiny surface becomes matte, the color of the image changes to the color of the background and vice versa.
