The plant is 10-20 cm high and consists of many leaves adjacent to each other, connected in a "head", more or less dense. Lettuce leaves can be colored in different colors - green, red, yellow-green. Lettuce is low in calories and extremely rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, has a beneficial effect on the skin. Both the leaves and stems of this salad are used in cooking, although some varieties are grown only for the sake of juicy and aromatic stems. Lettuce is also used in some hot dishes (Chinese cuisine). Lettuce has more than 100 subspecies, but we will not go into such details. It is enough to distinguish five main varieties!
