Actinidia planting and careFruits of northern sizenot with an egg, but with a cherry, but also edible. The taste of actinidia fruits is sweet and sour, small seeds give them a nutty flavor. In general, different varieties have different additional flavors: apple, pineapple, strawberry. But it makes sense to grow actinidia not only for the sake of fruits. Its special advantage is its decorativeness, because it grows in the form of a huge liana, rising to a height of 6-7 m. In May - June, before flowering, actinidia leaves become variegated, almost completely covered with white-pink spots, and remain so all summer.
Three plus two
Since actinidia is a plantdioecious, when buying seedlings it is important not to confuse male specimens with female ones (outwardly, unfortunately, they are indistinguishable). The optimal ratio on the plot is as follows: two male, pollinating, but not fruiting, to three female, yielding a harvest. It is best to buy seedlings with a closed root system - in pots and bags, and plant them together with a lump of earth. Then they take root perfectly - if planted no later than October 15. If purchased later, it is better to dig them in for the winter or store them until spring in a frost-free basement.
The main thing is support
Actinidia can be planted in a sunny, wellThe planting should be done in a sunny place, or in partial shade, along the perimeter of the garden. The main condition is the presence of support: a fence, wall, pole, trellis or stretched rope. The climbing vines will climb up them. The distance between plants in a row is 1.5-2 m, the size of the planting hole is 60 x 60 cm. Add 1-2 buckets of compost or fully rotted manure there, mixing them with the soil. It would be a good idea to add a liter jar of wood ash. In the first year after planting, it is advisable to mulch the trunk circle with a thick (20 cm) layer of fallen leaves, and cover it with spruce branches on top so that mice do not eat the young trunk. The next season, the soil around the plant is not dug up, but only loosened, and even then very carefully, since its roots are located close to the surface. With proper planting, the climbing branches grow by 1.5-2 m already in the second year. The first harvest can be expected already in the fourth year.
