All these cities are interesting both from the point of view of architecture, and from the point of view of history. Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod are the most ancient Russian settlements. Their unique architectural monuments, some of which have been preserved since the XIII century, surprise with their beauty and grandeur. Ancient Kazan, the capital of the Kazan Khanate, is a completely different culture. Magnificent minarets and mosques adorn the city, but they organically coexist with Christian shrines. There is even a temple of all religions. And there is a monument to cats that saved the city from rodents. In Ulyanovsk, be sure to listen to the wind organ, a multi-ton structure of cast iron, and in Samara, evaluate the monument to the heating battery. Penza will meet you with a lot of historical monuments. But do not look for a monument to the hedgehog in the fog. It has not yet been installed, although indicated in the guidebooks. Ryazan is another ancient Russian city. The first settlement in this area was completely destroyed during the Tatar-Mongol invasion. The new city was built sixty kilometers from the former ashes.
